Vista SP1 messes up computers

None of these sound like terrible problems. You aren't really meant to install the full service pack from the standalone and you also can't have disabled too many key features otherwise it can't update those components and will crash afaik. This is why you use Windows Update.

It worked fine for me anyway.

Those whom married vista seem to really be in a bad realtionship. They get counciling - IE - updates/Sp's - and it still goes horrible wrong.

Why suffer the abuse?

No problems after applying SP1. In fact, there is very little difference on my laptop. Offline folders seem to work better and the Remote Desktop Connection login screens operate a little more streamlined.

On my 64bit Vista, Windows Update gets to 45% of the 711MB file and then fails the update. Tried numerous times with same results. Now busy downloading the 725MB standalone file.

Two nights ago, Vista / Office updates totaled 450MB.

So, just in the last 2 days, the updates totaled 959MB (failed) + 450MB + 725MB.

So more than 2GB gone.

How much is that ganna cost people with HSDPA cards? ;) *pats ubuntu*

Microsoft recommends that Vista users go to Windows Update to get the service pack rather than use its download service, saying that the Windows Update could diagnose driver problems before installation.

Doesn't sound very promising:(.

Oi again best buying policy for M$ OS, wait till it's just about to get replaced and then buy it. At that point most bugs/problems are sorted. No point in forking out loads of Rands for an unfinished product, just to have to constantly download big chunky fixes untill they eventually get it right.

Me still on XP and extremely happy I made that decision.
