Vista Support

It failed

(I think for not supporting the E220 properly)

Will get more details tomorrow.

Hi V3G .... Is there NO way you can get hold of the software regardless of it failing the E220. I have the Huawei E620 and I am more than willing to give it a try. None of the Huawei drivers or suggested Vista workarounds work at all. Please try and sneak us a copy :D ...... There are many users here who would probably be more than willing to help test that software.

Greetings V3G,
Have you any news on drivers for Huawai E220 for Vista? I got it to install on a Dell Latitude but Windows Vista sees it as a CD drive which is ''Corrupted or Inaccessible'', so the native drivers are unavailable. I tried copying them to a flash drive and installing them from there but Vista said ''Bwahahahahahaaaaa'' and told me to **** off. BTW, according to MS compatibility info, the E220 is compatible with Vista, see http://whql.microsoft.com/HCL/ProductList.aspx?cid=501

Cheers and hope to hear soon.

VMC Software for Vista

Well good news,

I have got hold of the VMC software for vista, and tested it with both the Novatel U740 and the Huawei E620 and so for it works like a charm.

You can get this software from Vodafone's website or follow the link below.

Just in case, I take no responsibility if it causes problems.

Have Fun
David

The software installed perfectly but again Vista will not load the drivers for the Huawei E620. No matter what I have tried, including manually pointing to the location of the drivers it just does not detect the card. The card itself works 100% on XP and is what I am using now to send this :) ..... It actually does not surprise me that much because previous versions of VMC on Vista also had many problems with detecting cards so I guess Vodafone is just keeping up. Thanks anyway David, I will try a few other things and try and crack this one.

Tried this version on Vista 32Bit with one of the original Colt Option cards and no luck, won't detect the drivers even when forcing a manual install. Going to give it a try on my other XP notebook to see if the VMC itself still supports the card, just in case. I ran out of time testing since I had to re-install Vista 3 times because of various driver issues on my Acer TravelMate.

I have exactly the same problem. It will not detect the drivers at all ... not manually, not automatically ... nada. I have the Huawei E620. The new VMC software is pretty useless and obviously they have not quite gotten used to programming for Vista. I just can't understand why it just ignores you when you point it to the drivers even though they are there??? I have spent several hours on this now and getting very frustrated.

V3G .... why have you gone so quite on this issue :D You must be travelling somewhere  Pls let us know where the Vista support is???

Had a chance to test the VMC v9.0 RC on my Windows XP machine with a Option Colt card. Buggy, very buggy. It crashes quite often with Buffer Underrun errors.

Either Vodafone will not be supporting the older cards or this software is not well tested. Althought it does come with drivers for my particular card and did detect it.

Think I am just going to keep waiting till we get a working local version

My understanding was that all these cards were working fine but the E220 was the problem. So I was expecting the Vodafone link would work for you guys. Will check just now and let you know.

I also have the Huawei E620 card and the drivers also do not install on Vista no matter what I try. For now I am using Mandriva 2007 as my primary OS on my laptop and got the card working within 5 minutes.

This has really been the first time where it has been easier to get something to work in Linux as opposed to a microsux OS.

BTW thanks for the easy to use Linux guide

Hi Roman, the Huawei drivers were the very first ones I tried which were suggested earlier on this forum. Exactly the same problem, just does not accept the drivers. I remember reading that if you apply any Windows Updates it "breaks" the Huawei cards under Vista. Does not physically break them, it just makes Vista unable to detect the card. I think this may be the case. I have nothing very urgent on the laptop so this weekend I will wipe her clean, install a fresh Vista and install the card immediately before I do anything else. Will report back on this. Hopefully Vodafone/Vodacom are working on this problem so that hopefully the final release of VMC 9.x will sort this all out ..... Great weekend to all !!!!

Hi all

Been an avid lurker but this is my first post, and I wish it could be under better circumstances...

I just upgraded from XP home to Vista Home Premium and my E220 clearly doesnt like vista to much. I tried the work around as posted elsewhere but to no joy.

Just got off the phone with vodacom help on 155 and its what I call NO HELP

Just spoke to a guy called Naim and he basically told me that sorry the e220 doesnt work with vista and tough luck!

His solution to me was, use XP  He said there MIGHT be a solution in the future!

Now vista has been out long enough for a solution and since the E220 is the latest in vodacoms modem range and since Vista is the latest in Operating System, thats not the response I was hoping from Customer Care!

Vodacom3G PLEASE HELP!!!! How do I get my E220 to work on Vista???

Unfortunatly the above is correct. The majority of 3G users will not be able to use Vista as Vodafone has yet to release a working version of the Vodafone connect software. This is the case with a lot of cellphone developers as well. There is a link to RC4 of the Vodafone software further down and some members had success using this version.

My laptop is on automatic updates from MS, and have had many updates with no adverse effects to my E620's operation.

Must be something different on your hw compared to mine (i.e. PCMCIA-PCI bridge etc.)

I have also tried using the Huawei E220 drivers on Vista, and no go. Dont have an E220 anymore to test, but noticed this long-winded manual procedure in the MTN forum .... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=865648&postcount=1

I'll phone Bill and the CEO of Huawei and tell them to get their act together! :D

Seriously, Vodacom is as much at the mercy of companies like M$ and Huawei to bring out drivers for their products. Vodacom does not write drivers.

However, the release of the VMC to address this should be relatively soon. I'll ask for an updated date.

I'm also running Vista on my desktop and so far have about a 70% success in running my old apes. Java aps run at about 40% of 'XP' speed. For the next few months any Vista installation is going to be at 'early adopter' level.

Thx for the reply Vodacom3g and others...

We await to hear more from you then.

I have been less than impressed with compatibility issues with Vista :(

In my case I just paid R2500 there about for the modem and am on prepaid (lets not go into the R2 per mb story) but I feel sorry for those who have upgraded to vista and are under contract paying in excess of R500 per month and they unable to use their modem and service. Considering the fact that they using the latest modem and the latest OS you would expect it to work.

I understand what you saying about its up to Microsoft and Huawei to come up and write drivers, but if it takes 6 months to do, the poor customer is just paying and not receiving. You would think Vodacom is putting major pressure on those concerned to come up with a solution or possibly offer the client a loan unit which is capable of running on vista until a proper solution is put in place rather than just tough luck!

My soap box moment is over, hehe and hope we get news real soon about a fix for the e220 and vista :D

I'm also thinking along the lines of hardware support for USB, etc.
Probably helps using big name brand equip (which MS will inherently take into account). On my DELL D620 laptop the only non Vista supplied driver I've needed to use (besides E620) is for the sound card, as the MS driver fails to replicate sound out of the DELL docking station's speaker jack.
