Lucky Boy ... hope it all goes well with your upgrade !!!!

I just upgraded my desktop pc, Gigabyte board 8IG1000MK (I think), 1GB Memory and it is flying (again) much faster than XP on the same hardware ..... so now thats 2 pc's (one with 2 year old hardware) and Vista outperforms XP in both situations. I just luv it !!!!

Any ideas on the relative performance of the 975 vs 965 chipsets?

Well, it's now going on for 3 weeks since my first post and I'm no closer to getting my E220 to work, another month that I'll be paying for bandwidth that I can't use. I was contacted by a Vodacom rep who has tried to help but so far nothing has worked. The latest instruction was to download VMC Lite or any other drivers and then follow a complicated procedure. I have no idea where I would go to obtain this VMC Lite.

I can't believe that I'm the only person who has this problem, is there nobody who has managed to get their (Vodacom) E220 to work on Vista. Surely I'm not alone here.
 
Dell M65

Hi

I have a Dell M65 and like others, my notbook hangs when I insert the E620 card and resets when I remove it. The "fix" on the Dell site is:

"Contact your service provider to provide you with an upgraded device"

May I ask if there is an upgraded device?

I think the biggest problem is incorrect PCMCIA slot drivers. By this I am not referring to the drivers for the Huawei but rather the actual drivers for the PCMCIA slot. I had major problems trying to get the card to work under Vista until Acer released official Vista drivers which included a proper Vista driver for the PCMCIA slot. The one loaded (default) by Vista does not seem to work properly at all. Perhaps Dell has a new PCMCIA driver for your model?

You should ask Vodacom to swop out your Huawei card for another brand which may work ..... I would suggest going into a Vodacom shop and getting them to try out different cards on your laptop. But also check you have the correct PCMCIA driver.

By the way I have one of those notebooks that is has a 3G card built-in. The SIM card slots in underneath the battery. Anyway that doesn't work either. My Jasjar broke and I have a loan phone without drivers.

So I am currently travelling and 3 possible ways of getting connected - but technically none of them work :-(

At least a guest house with WiFi!

Yes, for certain Dell notebooks there is a swap-out of the E620. I know the 820 is one of them, not sure about the M65. Will check. You could also try and check with 155. Insist to speak to someone who knows about the Huawei/Dell swap-out.

I see the generic (Normal) version of the Huawei Mobile Connect software now available on there site for download (http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736) has Vista drivers. Hope this helps...

I went to Vodaworld for the swapout. Apparently they do not have any 3G cards in stock.

Can this be true?

Perhaps you can PM me who the right contact is.

Bluetooth and HSDPA

While waiting for VC to get together Vista drivers for the E220 I am using my data card with a 3G phone and a bluetooth connection. My question is whether I will still get HSDPA speeds, so far my connection has seemed a little slow but this could be unrelated to my connection method.

salmo, my understanding is that it's not a E220 driver problem on your system. Rather it seems VMC 9.1 won't even install properly on your system. I know we are busy with the developers on this.

In the mean-time, have you tried the generic Huawei application?

We were also going to send you the new version of VMC-Lite as soon as we get it. Not sure if Shaun's received and send it to you yet?

If your phone is not a HSDPA phone, it obviously cannot give HSDPA speeds, so you'll be limited to 3G at 384Kb/s.

Shaun was in contact and did send me VMC Lite, that also was not able to install. What is the generic Huawei application, where do I find it? I'm willing to try anything but can't even get past the starting post if the application won't even install.

You can find it on the Huawei web-site.

If you have two different programs that won't even install, I wonder if there is not another problem with your Vista setup?

Not a rights or permission issue?

@salmo, Vodacom has walk-in data techie centres where you can take your PC|notebook to sort out such issues - there is one at Vodaworld, I think it's time you considered doing this...

It also occured to me that it could be a Vista issue but if so it is only, and I stress ONLY with the E220. I've installed other software before and since with no problems at all.

Hi Salmo

To answer your question, Bluetooth DOES have speed limitations. Bluetooth transfers data at a rate of 721 Kbps ... that will no doubt affect your speed greatly and is possibly a reason why its slow with your current configuration.

I had quite a few problems with my initial installation of Vista with trying to get the Huawei card to work, Vista would just NOT recognised the card. I did a fresh install after ACER released their Vista drivers, then I immediately loaded the Huawei drivers and software and have never looked back.

I hope you get it sorted !!!
