So I'm looking at upgrading to 4GB of ram and thus Vista 64bit. I am currently running Vista Ultimate 32bit with no problems and was hoping if I could get some feedback on Vista Ultimate 64bit. Anybody have any problems with it? Programs/games not running and so on?

Any feedback will be appreciated :)

Yea there are a couple of programs that do not work but majority do and its exactly like 32 bit but alot faster :)

I would suggest not buying vista 64 bit ultimate now as windows 7 is due for release shortly, if your pirating it then yea works a bomb, i just would not drop 2k on windows now and again in dec.

Every piece of software that I use on my Windows Vista Ultimate x86 works on the x64 version. I do however agree with killadoob (doesn't happen often :p), wait a while for Windows 7 and decide which would be best for you.

Not a matter of which is better for you :). Windows 7 is better than vista but a mile and i was a huge vista fan but windows 7 is just mind blowing :). Techie you back from where? seems like were gone for long.

Haven't had a single problem with my Ultimate x64.
I do agree though that it's probably better to wait for Windows 7 before making a purchase

Yeah I've got a pirated x64 and x86 Vista. I'm a bad man :p

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I will be using Vista Ultimate 64bit for a short while then :)

Or you could just start running the Windows 7 beta or whatever now in 64-bit mode. Apparently it is pretty good from what I have heard & this way you wont be a pirate anymore ;)

Totally agree, put in as much ram as you can afford.

I really really really want to try win 7 but only prob is I play COD 4 and 5 a lot and seeing as PB doesn't work on win 7 afaik it isn't viable yet.

But I wanna try it out either way, anyone know when the next build is going to be leaked :)

I have a few friends playing COD4 & 5 on windows 7 without problems. I've heard that some people have problems with PB and some don't.

I don't care what OS it is but next time i'm installing a 64-Bit version. will probably be win7 x64 though...

Hmmm... Well I'll try and get the lastest build of win 7 and give it a try. Do you know if they had to use a fix to get PB working or did it just work from the time they installed win 7?

Might be worth a try, http://msmvps.com/blogs/brianmadsen/archive/2009/01/14/windows-7-punkbuster-fix.aspx

Windows 7 64bit

Got it to work by doing the following:

* Enable Vista compabitility for PnkBstrA/B.exe in c:\windows\syswow64 and c:\users\\appdata\local\punkbuster.

* Running above files with administrator rights.

* Enable Vista compabitility for C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War\CoDWaWmp.exe

* Run CoDWaWmp.exe _without_ administrator rights

no kick here either30min online on a punkbuster server

hi guys, i fixed punkbuster kicks and api errors: first set run as administrator under compatibility tab of the game desktop link. second copy PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe from folder sysdrive\Windows\SysWOW64 to sysdrive\Windows\System32.

done.

this work for me under windows 7.0000 64bit

i also fixed "no original dvd in drive" error with a sata dvd-rw: disable ata/sata controller and enable native sata on 1-3 ports (sata dvd must be on sata 2 master). install windows 7 (or reinstall owned win version): work perfectly.

i hope this can help someone

have good times

This worked perfect for me I have windows 7 build 7048 64bit played on it for an hour no api messages

Don't do anything with the registry, go to c:\users\\appdata\local\punkbuster\COD4\pb now right klick on PnkBstrA.exe and choose the tab "compatibility" and now just check "run this program as an administrator".

Do the same with PnkBstrB.exe.

Now go to Services and scroll down untill you find PnkBstrB, double click on it and disable it and stopp it, play cod4mp i normal mode and enjoy!;)

Not a matter of which is better for you :).

Just my bit of insurance against Windows 7 sucking when it gets released ;) What I meant by that is that if you see a reason not to go for Windows 7 when it's released then you can still choose Windows Vista (whichever will be best for you).

i was a huge vista fan

I believe everyone on this forum knows that by now :p

Techie you back from where? seems like were gone for long.

Life got in the way of my forum-ing :o
