Hey Guys,

I am currently deciding if I should start a moto vlog or not. I made a quick sample and would love some input on the idea. It will feature bad drivers and everyday crap that happens on our roads. This is just a quick sample of the kind of stuff that will feature on the vlog. Also I am getting my mic for the Drift soon, so will be adding some "colourfull commentary" as well.. Let me know what you guys think..

I probably wouldnt show myself leaving my complex, but i am paranoid

Cool idea, but.... how dedicated are you going to be? There's a lot of people that start a blog/vlog and then just quit; one hit wonders.

Best to see it as a project:
What are your objectives for the vlog?
What medium are you going to use (youtube?)
How do you plan on attracting subscribers/viewership?
What's your targeted upload frequency (ad hoc, monthly, fortnightly, weekly, daily)?
Do you plan on monetizing it (there's plenty of youtubers that make 10K-30K USD just for vlogging)? The former is significantly more important if your goal is to monetize.

My parental always nagged me with the saying: if you're going to do something, do it right and do it right the first time.

My plan is to do it more as a hobby. Not to monetize (well unless it really kicks off, which I doubt). But yeah, purely for fun and showing the peeps what our awesome drivers are up to. I am looking at making a vid once a week as I get more than enough footage during the week. Will be purely for Youtube. Not too bothered about subscribers etc, but would be nice to get some views. So might ask a favour or 2 from some other vloggers on Youtube.

Yes do it! I was wanting to do this myself but I need to dish up for a good action cam.

Only problem is most of my videos would be of taxies being the *********s that they are.

Hahhaha I hear you. I have about 10 clips of taxis being taxis :) Lots of red light jumpers and the odd near side swipe on the highway.

I tell people of the close calls I sometimes have and none of them believe me, so I think I need to hop onto this.

WHat are you riding by the way?

It's a Honda NC750X. Love the bike, but looking to upgrade to a BMW S1000R next year sometime.

I've been wanting to do this too just for the fun of it, actually bought a Sony action cam like a week ago..
Just been experimenting with the audio, it's not so easy getting it so you can speak clearly without horrible wind rush sound. Probably also cos I'm just toying around with a cheap mic atm..

There's like zero South African motovloggers that I'm aware of so there's certainly room for some. ;) I've noticed it seems to be really popular with Australians.

Yeah it is popular all around the world. I am subbed to one SA vlogger Miggs7170, he is awesome and quite entertaining. But love LeadPin, AdrijanNickelodeon, JakeTheGardenSnake, ARidersLife, RoyalJordanian, BikerPOV, CagerOnTwoWheels, and and and. Subbed to a lot of different vlogging channels and looks like a lot of fun.

Also, try and remove the padding in the helmet and running the mic cable between the shell and the padding. Then put the mic in the cheek pad, this helps a lot with wind reduction. My mic is on it's way right now. So will see how that goes.

Went ahead and watched one of his, gotta say he doesn't really sound like a South African.. not that that's a bad thing. :p

I actually gave that a try, it's sorta ok at really low speeds but pops and crackles a lot, think I need to get a better mic first. The one I'm using currently is just one I ripped out of a cheap PC/skype headset, it's probably not even the right type of mic..

Cool man, try and get a better mic with the fluffy cover over it. Should help a bit as well.

O and Cape Town isn't in SA, remember :)

I tried this with my bike but got bored within a few weeks. Editing is hard work man.

I was using the Drift Ghost with a mic in my helmet. My sound was really good. I might start again but not for any purpose other than to record my rides for safety purposes. If I catch something I will upload or if I take it to the track I will record some laps to review later.

Going into it with the idea that you will record taxis just being taxis or idiots skipping reds will get old very quickly. Those vloggers who started like this pretty much all abandoned the idea and just started filming things that make them happy, which in turn made them better vloggers. I've learnt one thing on SA roads and that is to try chill and watch out for myself instead of trying to catch bad drivers in the act. All it did was make my blood boil.

In my opinion, have fun with it. If you're going to try to learn how to wheelie, film that. If you see two maids punching each other at the side of the road film that (I once thought I was filming this exact thing but my battery died. Would have been great footage).

My favourite vloggers at the moment are RidingwithTom and Baron Von Grumble - although the Baron has gone quite the past few months due to his divorce.

Thanks a lot for the great advice mate. I too enjoy the Baron. Love his review on my next bike, the BMW S1000R. "It's a jizz machine, we have found it!" Lol... I am sure the vlogging will progress over time. Not too bothered about tge editing bit. I love doing this and akways have, so this is a great opportunity for enhancing my editing knkw how as well. Thanks again

That S1000R is indeed a major jizz machine. I'm not looking to upgrade just yet though since I'm enjoying my Triumph Street Triple far too much but yes, if the money is rolling in for me, something like the BMW would be an option. It's actually a really good value for money bike considering all the tech they've thrown into it.

I've subscribed to your channel. I'm Riding Jozi on the YouTube. I'll keep a look out for your uploads.
