Ok so a colleague of mine just brought a e220 in that had been flashed by a vodacom agent to V3 of VMCLite, all fine and dandy except for the part of not detecting Vodacom SA...:confused:

Since when is this version being given out and whats up with the no Vodacom SA.

Not that it's going to stop anyone (especially Iam3G !!) but this version is still under test and not yet approved.

That's why i will do my own "experimenting" and provide feedback as per my experience with it. That's how i learn. I broke my very first PC by taking it apart and puttig it back together(part by part)...

So i wouldnt recommend that anyone try the software yet.

On the readme it says that the E220 needs at least firmware version 11.110.01.05.00 or higher to use version 3.

v3g, any idea when we'll be getting the E270?

Just remember to put a disclaimer in any 'non-official' info you post here. :) And don't use your customers as guinea pigs!! ;)

Check with the channel guys in your shop on the new modems, they're probably closer to the the supply chain that I am.

Nope, no PM's from you. I am running behind in responding to PM's, but have not received anything from 'SonZero' over the last few weeks.

Can you resend? Or did you mail me, I'm even further behind with mails....

I downloaded version 3...

First attempt at downloading, i downloaded the wrong updater! The one i downloaded was for the E270... 26Megs gone(but not wasted though).

Downloaded the correct version and updated my modem with it. I'm online with the Dashboard now.

Its got few new features:
1. It now shows 3G+ when connected on HSDPA(Cyan Light) and 3G when the light is Dark Blue, where VMCLite 2.2.2.1 only showed 3G regardless if you were on HSDPA.

2. You can now set the App to startup with Windows, or do it manually(VMC9.2 has this feature). So no more Autorun :(

3. You can now choose your network Preference, i.e. 3G Preferred, 3G Only or 2G Only.

4. It now has a Diagnostics option which shows Firmware version, IMEI and the works, and a "Network" Tab(In Diagnostics) which your APN Settings and IP Settings.

5. Upon clicking the "X" it gives you a warning that it will be minimized to the taskbar.

6. And it now has limit warnings in the Usage options. [EDIT]: You can also define your own Usage Limit(I have like 200megs left on my PPDB, so i just set it to 200MB).

It doesnt have the Autorun feature. I had to manually go and find the setup file. You now have to manually start the software as well.

But like v3g said, its still under testing, so i hope they include the autorun feature again. I'm gonna use it for the rest if the month to see its behaviour...

And i dont know how your colleague could not detect Vodacom-SA 3G becoz i can

The only place where Vodacom isnt listed is in the initial startup of the setup where it asks you to choose your network operator, and Vodacom isnt listed there. I chose Vodafone UK.

VMCLite is badly behaved software. Installs common components into it's Program Files folder and registers them. So your other development tools and applications that expect them in Windows/System32 will use the wrong files. Not to mention the fact that it installs a virtual CD ROM, auto-installs software and stops working after a few days (requiring it to be switched to another USB port).

Dodgy stuff.

yes that is true but its a heck of a lot more userfriendly than HMP, which is important when working with people who are close to being babboons.

Don't think it's all VMCLite though, many of the functions, for example the virtual CDRom bit, are common to all the applications launched from the firmware.

2 things i found irritating about Version 3:

1. When you do the "right click, close", the app closes, re-opens, then shuts down.

2. When setting a limit on your usage, and you reach that usage, it renders the dashboard useless, as it minimizes to the system tray, and you cant access it again.

I hope they fix this. But other than that, its nogal ok.

I like it when you reach your limit & it die's. That is the way to go no OOB etc. etc.

Oh I see what you mean, it locks the dashboard but you still stay connected? not very nice.

Like v3g mentioned, the Software is still under testing, so they'll prolly fix that. Just like i HOPE they fix the Autorun feature.

I noticed that Vodacom has released Dashboard version 3.2.1.156 on the mobile downoads section of the Vodacom website.

The version i have is Dashboard version 3.0.3.112, which i got from Here...

Now before Vodacom had released version 3.2.1.156 i got hold of it, and wanted to test it for myself.

I got irritated with it within the first hour. I dunno if it was just a bad day, or if my machine was just being tempermental, but what was happening was that it took me an hour just to get it working.

After using it for a while that day, i found that when you exit VMCLite, it just sits in the memory, and everytime i had to use Task Manager to stop it.

The other thing it did was when ever you put in a E220(no matter what version), version 3.2.1.156 pops up before you know it. It was super quick!

I reverted back to the version i have now, and everything ran smoothly again. Quite frankly the version i'm using now has giving me no problems at, and i hated VMCLite in the beginning :o

I'm going to try version 3.2.1.156 again, and see how it goes this time. Will let you guys know.
