vodacom 3 g disconnects

Hi guys,
I have defected from MTN but have a problem
my SE K800i connects and its super duper fast but only while i am keeping the connection busy. if i leave the connection idle for more than 20 - 30 seconds I get switched down to gprs speeds. the signal is good and the towers are not busy .. even tried this at 3 am.
I had no such problems with the mtn network where there was 3g connectivity so I know its not the equipment.
any suggestions ?

no such luck on a k800i. options are gsm only or gsm and 3G
if i had the spare RRR's i would get a data card, whats the cheapest out there?

If you're using your phone as a modem with a PC, get hold of the latest version of VMC, which should work with your phone, then create a 3GOnly profile in VMC.

well after phoning the data guys and going through some settings with them (no changes on my side) i seem to be keeping a 3g connection. guess these guys really do have customer care.
borrowed a friends hsdpa card and i'm hooked..... got to get me one !!!
but honestly as long as the connection is stable i'm a happy bunny so 3G is a added bonus for me

It's a function of HSDPA that it idles in 3G and switch back to HS when data flows, but it won't switch down to GPRS, unless it's a function of the specific handset (as in firmware issue).
