i can get an average speed of 7.2mbps at my house with vodacom 3G. i just want to know, will that be enough for wow? wil it lag alot and what will the latency be? if anybody can help me THANKS!!

It's not really about the speed. Hell, you could play WOW just fine on a 128K ISDN line. Lag is all about latency, and sadly, HSDPA sucks in that department.

Really? I've been playing WoW on HSDPA and plays excellently, with an average latency of about 150ms... Yes on HSPDA.

WTF!!! you are getting 7.2mbps????

How is this possible? As far as I'm aware, the max speed that VC provides is at 3.6mbps. Unless VC implemented some major changes over the weekend.

Are you sure about this 7.2mbps??

Did you do a speedtest on http://speed.vodacom.co.za/speedtest/ ???

That is a good ping but I believe its only in cape town that the latencies are fair.

If people from inland pretoria or Johannesburg connects they have to be routed through 2000 kilometres of copper lines and that adds 150 ping or so.

Expect 300-400 ping on vodacom hsdpa(not cape town). That is stil fine for a role playing game.

I don't play WoW, but I do play EVE Online on 3G, and haven't had issues with lag. I did have once a few weeks ago, but that was only one night for a few hours.

I think his PC is reporting 7.2Mb/s when it connects, but as you know this is a modem string and not related to the actual speed which will (today) either be on a 1.8 or 3.6 profile. Actual speed achieved will be as reported by the speed test.

HSDPA sucks in that department.

Sadly on vodacom it has this intermittent problem. So unless u are happy to continously smash ur head against a wall use VC HSDPA for wow.

Sad fact is u probably better off using mtn 3g then vodacom. Mate of mine uses mtn 3g not to far from me and has about 80% less downtime then me.

In-Game WoW latency:
Voda on GPRS latency = 1500 -> 3500ms
MTN on EDGE latency = 650 -> 15000ms depending on the time .. after hours seems to be the worst.

What do you expect on GPRS? Very low Pings? Try it on 3G or higher then you'll get average about 200 to 600ms.

Do any of you know what is the website for Vodacom 3G HSDPA? I need prices and the speeds and correct coverage areas and whether I can take out a contract for 6 months. All the websites that I have come across are full of useless info.
THANKS

Dont take out a contract just for WoW, PPDB FTW!

Just pop into your local Vodashop and find out what your options are.

Yeah that is what I was refering to. Vodacom HSDPA has terrible pings. Well, at least here where I am.

Soulreaver seriously dont get a vc modem for wow, iv had to log again because my pings are so high (1.5k->5kms) seriously. VC 3g is *** period and its been *** for the nearly 2 years since iv had it. U are better off either getting mtn, iburst or wimax...

I get a ping of 500 to 600, but can play lotr bfme2 just fine, except 8 person battles.
