isnt a wireless connection over a wide area network a bit dodgy for gaming ? Too unpredictable ?

For twitch-action type of games, yes. However WoW is not Unreal Tournament/Counterstrike where a millisecond is the difference between a rocket in your face or dodging it. For MMOs, like WoW, most of the combat is actually more "autohit" and "statistics" and don't necessarily require "breakneck reactions" .
Sure there are a few things that needs very specific timing, but a 300ms-500ms ping is usually sufficient, and even then there's addons which compensates for your lag [giving an indication how much -earlier- you should start casting a spell etc].
Oh and i forgot to add my 3G raiding -included- being on Ventrillo/Teamspeak at the same time.
