We have two 3G modems each on a Top Up 300MB contract with Vodacom.

All has been fine and dandy for about a year now.

Suddenly we are going through MB's like crazy. Also the Vodacom software registers that the modem is connected, however it doesn't register that there is any data being sent/received or used.

It works, I am using it now, but I have recharged with 300mb twice this month and it just disappears within a day.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Outside of all the other suggestions you'll get about how data can be chowed in the background, check if there is not a Twin-SIM and/or Data-SIM active on the accounts. Phone your ISP's call centre and ask them to check both numbers for Twin-SIM or Data-SIM.

Get any new PC's / Laptop's lately?

No new PCs. Why?

New pc's would be bound to do updates which would be the biggest data killer. it might be best to do a netstat to check what background apps or processes might be running.

Also check if BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) is completely disabled. I've found that even when everything regarding background updates are disabled, this continues to download at a rapid rate for no reason.

Also, which Anti-Virus do you use? And is it up to date? You might have a virus that's downloading in the background.

Something changed in that year which might be the cause of it.
