To put it lightly, I'm the m**r in with the pathetic Vodacom 3G service in my area.

Until 10 days ago, 3G worked perfectly for the past two years throughout the 24 hour day. Then the trouble started. First, I only received GPRS during working hours and 3G/HSDPA after hours, but since today there is no G3 coverage after hours, only GPRS I phoned Vodacom but after holding on for 10 minutes, I gave up and left a message for them to return my call. Three days have passed now and I'm still waiting for their return call. What pathetic service!

I am now desperate and will migrate to ADSL asap and rather support Telkom than a customer unfriendly organization like Vodacom.

BTW I'm from George living in a residential area.

and let me tell you something that will REALLY get your blood boiling....
iBurst and Neotel users are downloading more Gigs per month than us on Vodacom 3G. (Think in the area of 50-60 Gigs per month)

People, Vodacom is the NEW LOW for Internet.... DO NOT make the same mistake with Vodacom 3G!

Expensive sh|t is what it is, really.

Have you approached Vodacomdata, he's a Vodacom-representative-forumite on this board. PM him or follow the directions in his signature.

Even with TELKOM you get extra gigs per month, and if you go over your limit its R15 a gig or something...

With VODACOM, Get ready to pay R2,00 for every megabite you go over. for EVERY MB.

had a busy month and went 500mb over? get ready for a R1000 Bill - the same amount would of got you UNLIMITED internet elsewhere!

You know it's a retarded ISP when they charge per MB, and not in GIGABYTES...

STAY AWAY PEOPLE, STAY AWAY

@Keeper, some of us just don't have a choice you know, seriously.
No telkom towers, no neotel towers and telkom's friggin cables are permanently submerged in water making ADSL unreliable. ;) Until then we just K, and betaal.

I know that - and your post isn't helping you by stating "We don't have a choice" - Its post like those that make vodacom stay the same.

WE DEMAND YOU UPDATE YOUR PRICES VODACOM!
iBurst users are ahead of us vodacom Users - you are worse than they are!

Lower prices or get ready to lose customers! (except for the few that don't have choices - most of us DO!)

Mn... I have been pretty happy with Vodacom...

Coverage around the country (everywhere I go I have 3G / HSDPA).

We have some applications that require 1Mb/s burst upload (video streaming) and everywhere we have needed it Vodacom has provided a constant 400Kb/s UPLOAD connection.

Perhaps we are just lucky, but I am really happy with Vodacom

Don't get me started on MTN or Neotel (no coverage anywhere)...

Yes, praise Vodacom - Just to let them know they are good enough - I mean, it's not like Vodacom is expensive really?

R600 for 2GB on "advanced broadband" seems pretty reasonable to me... as does R390 for 2GB with perhaps another R300 if you went 150mbs over, making it a total of R700 for 2.1GB - yep - not bad prices at all.

I'll back you up about the pricing Keeper!
R390 for 2gigs is really hurtin'!
I want more.

Hurray for demon angel!

I'm sick and tired of people saying "we don't have a choice" and "they aint that bad"

you're not helping us or yourself - if everyone starts complaining, threatening to leave Vodacom for better deals, perhaps they will wake up and update their prices.

Push FORWARD, don't accept the way things are.

Why dont you open your own ISP and then offer the prices you want at a loss:cool:

How low can it go?

Most telecoms operators feel that a cost of between R 200 and R 300 per month for a broadband service is as low as it can go. Former iBurst MD Alan Knott-Craig Jnr said that a cost of around R 220 per month is the ‘broadband pricing floor’: “Anything below a price of R220 will mean that a provider will find it difficult to show profits on its service offerings,” Knott-Craig said.

Reed agrees with Knott-Craig’s view, pointing out that although European broadband prices are low, broadband bundle pricing still starts at around R200 to R300 per month. “You will find average sales per customer below that are not profitable if you want to retain a good level of service,” says Reed.

Hi VodacomData

Thanks for looking at my post. I did not make contact with you because out of frustration I switched off the computer after sending my above mentioned message.

My Problem: For the past two years I was happy with 3G reception. However, for the past few days I only had GPSR during working hours and normal 3G after hours. I contacted the local Vodacom Regional Office in George and they told me to phone the 3G complaints number. I did but I was told to hold the line. After ten minutes holding, I gave up in frustration and and took the option for them to return my call. No one did. This was three days ago. I then contacted my service provider, Mweb, and asked them to assist me with this problem. They said that they will contact Vodacom on my behalf.

Yesterday evening I only received a gprs signal. Out of frustration I wrote the above post and then switched off the computer. It is now 08h30 in the morning and hooray, I still have 3G! I can almost not believe it. If there is a problem with the network why does Vodacom not communicate this to their data clients by sms or whatever means. Hell, we pay a lot to them for the service. I think it is only good client relations to do so.

SFW007, it does not state anything about CAP size in the paragraph - give us bigger bundles then, same difference!

and PS: Vodacom is far from operating at a loss. you have no idea.....seriously...

To the contrary, I am generally very happy with V3G for my data needs. For several years now, I have been running both Telkom ADSL and V3G - prepaid. I prefer the speeds and reliability I get from Vodacom, to Telkom ADSL. But it is area specific - where I live and where I travel, the 3G is great, but sure it must be frustrating if you live in an area that can only get GPRS. I would rather pack up internet/email altogether if I only had the option of GPRS.
I am so happy with V3G, that I am thinking of closing my 2GB ADSL line and using V3G as my primary internet/email medium.

However, I must say, I think it is way better being on Vodacom prepaid, than on a contract - no nasty huge accounts to pay, if the cap is exeeded, and start paying out of cap rates. I just buy 1GB of data whenever I need it. AND....fantastic that it can last 60 days. I buy a package at the beginning August and it will expire at the beginning of October !!!!! Way to go, Vodacom - but would still love to see a reduction in prices :-)

no, the end of september, not october.

I say, stop catering so much for people who DON'T use their data (ie "rollover") and start catering for real internet users (cheaper prices on bigger bundles)

I have no problem using 2GB in a month.

the only people happy with vodacom are the ones using small bundles - because they have no line to pay and stuff like that - it's cheaper for them to use 3G as you may use a 10mb bundle. even a 1GB is considered small - why don't V3G cater for people that actually use the Internet, like cheaper 5GB ?

+1

The only people scoring with the 60 day expiry date on data bundles (incorrectly called rollover) are those using less than 1GB per month.

e.g. a 1GB per month user can now buy 2GB every 60 days and save money.

What do the 2GB and up users get? Nothing!
