Vodacom and CellC prepares new packages

Some industry experts predict that 2007 will be the year where wireless broadband subscriber numbers overtakes its fixed line counterparts in South Africa, and Telkom’s complacency may be one of the main reasons for this trend.
Ooooooooh ... meloves the "complacency" slap. :)

"Both Vodacom and CellC are preparing new data packages with the aim of bringing more value to their subscribers."

They meant: "Both Vodacom and CellC are preparing new data packages with the aim of innovating the method with which they overcharge you , largely in reaction to MTN's recent data cost reductions.

:D

What would be bloody fantastic, is if Vodacom could provide a truly competitive product to ADSL i.e. 3Gig usage on HSPDA 1.8 mbps for under R400 a month. That would certainly cause a shakeup in the market. I would sure as hell jump ship from Telscum!!!

Too little, too late.

They (voda) shall be receiving my cancellation form today.

If you snooze you lose...

I tried to stay with Vodacom by requesting a phone with my contract renewal. Although I received promises, nothing ever realised, so I am off to MTN.

I don't think Vodacom realise that there's no value to a 3G number, to change it is no great shakes.

Theres no reaction, dates were set a long time ago they dont do things like you think.

Timing is critical and being first to launch is not always the best way of doing things.

The thing about out mobile providers in SA is they don't compete head to head. they offer different packages with various in's and out's. My feeling is Vodacom will being out a package that won't have more GB's or cheaper, but have a special VOIP rate, add offpeak/peak data rates or something like that. it's not going to be a matter of just dropping their prices and adding GB's. too easy.

Oh yes one thing to add, I am thinking of changing from vodacom, and since MTN has done pretty well in adding value added services and taking the bulls by the horns, they deserve to be taking all my money instead of vodacom.

I do conceptually understand the issue, I was just so irrationally irritated by the "aim of bringing more value to their subscribers" comment, which is complete BS.

It is irritating to me as well.

I don't want extra free minutes which I won't use at all... but I will appreciate a cut in tariffs.

As things are, I've sent and emailed my cancellation form in just now, can do better things with that money... Besides, I phone very seldom, and send SMS'es which does not justify the high cost of my contract...

It's almost at R600 a month, a complete waste of money.

The next contract which I will take out, will be with MTN (should I ever want a contract again).

Definitely. I hardly use my landline except for ADSL. MTN is getting close with 2Gb for R400, but that requires a 24 month contract.

I will prepare a new toilet roll in anticipation.

Depends, do I still get a quad bike in the new deals :D

Think we'll see some deals like :

3Gig + UTD for R599 pm with free cellphone

something like that...

I'll go with the quad tho... :D as long as it's not a piepie quad... :D

And I don't want to hear a peep from Vodacom, they can cancel my contract and keep it at that, am not interested in doing business with them again.

Doesn't telkom have a shareholding in vodacom somehow? or is that just goverment who has a share in both. In either case what's the chance that there will actually be any competition here?

Just as a general comment Vodacom with their horrendous service and superior attitude will not see another cent of my money no matter what deals they come up with.

Government owns around 39% of Telkom
Telkom owns 50% of Vodacom
Vodacom bought 10% of IBURST end of last year, wants a bigger piece be sure.

Sentech 100% government owned
Neotel I think is 30% government owned

I am very very interested in what Vodacom and Cell c will offer. I must point out to you that :
1. Vodacom has been very silent on selling us data bundles for 2 years(prepaid that is ). I have been silently waiting for two years but i ,all of a sudden found out Virgin offering 50C per Mg . He ! He! i am no longer interested in Vodacom ,but

2. what will happen if Vodacom comes with 5C per Mg ? I am worried.
I cannot even think of going for Telkom -they sadly refused to install the
line for me ( 8 years of asking)
