Vodacom and CellC prepares new packages

Now that Vodacom is in bed with iBurst I will stay clear from them. Also Vodacoms's network is not as stable as it shoud be.

They will have to come out with very aggressive pricing packages to get my vote again.

I requested a phone as part of my "upgrade" to stay with Vodacom. The promised phone could not be provided. I pointed out to Vodacom that I had the following options:
1. Continue with my current contract at R479/month, paying 48c/Mb.
2. Cancel the contract and use Vodacom data bundles, paying 40c/Mb.
3. Cancel the contract, take out a new Vodacom 3G contract with another service provider and get a free Nokia E70. A rate of 48c/Mb applies.
4. Cancel the contract, take out a new MTN 3G contract and pay 20c/Mb. With my current usage I can buy the phone in less than 8 months from the savings.

I decided to end my contract. Vodacom's response: I am busy with the negotiation of a matched or better deal specifically for you. If you can give me until close of business on Tuesday 06 March 2007 I might just have a pleasant surprise for you.

When I enquired about the "better deal" that did not materialise the response was: At this stage I can confirm that Vodacom is busy reviewing their pricing structure and will be announcing data packages at considerably lesser rates than what we are having currently.

Even with "considerably lesser rates" I think I have to go with MTN - Vodacom LIED to me

What does their owning a 10% stake in Iburst have to do with anything?

Please Vodacom show us the drastic data tarrif cuts.
Please we need cheap pre-paid Internet.
We need to use the Internet to its full capacity - we want to voip, send messages with skype, etc, etc.

What is interesting to see is that all the fireworks are in the wireless broadband sector. So far Telkom has not responded and has not expressed any concern regarding the progress that the wireless providers are making.

Is Telkom ever concerned?

2. what will happen if Vodacom comes with 5C per Mg ? I am worried.
I cannot even think of going for Telkom -they sadly refused to install the
line for me ( 8 years of asking)

5c/MB will not materialize in the next year. That's R50/GB. No, it won't be better than R250/GB on contract and R300/GB for others.


I wonder what Virgin's response will be. I would love 20c/MB data.
