vodacom and play store

a Lady at work got a samsung J1 pace.

I struggle to get the vodacom mms settings, Then restart the phone , add gmail acount,

I can open internet sites, but not very fast.

Playstore opens, select a app, select install , and as it should download, get an error, "error while retrieving info from server xxxxx"

Is the network just slow. I did clear the cache, select another network option, but no joy.

...what's the signal showing as?

E? H? H+? 3G? LTE?...you'll really only get joy with 3G and LTE and H+ with consistent strength that it doesn't keep seeking between the signal types.

It's probably timing out due to insufficient signal strength or consistency.

Find a place where you can use WiFi cuz you'll get murdered if you use all her data on the first day.

Since beginning December Vodacom signal has been terrible.

I have no idea why.

Everyone I know is complaining, I wonder if it's network congestion or just some issue on the network they deny they have.

Vodacom is weak here. a New tower is being build. On the other hand, Mtn, got 3 towers very near.

It show 3G with no bars.

She is sleeping in the hotel tonight, will ask her to wifi. [How would I explain that].

You're on your own there. I'm terrible at explaining things. The more I try to simplify it the more I lose the other person. Also depends on what WiFi policy the hotel has...if any.

3G with no bars? ...hmm, could be LTE is on. If signal strength is poor it's a good idea to limit the phone to 3G (WCDMA and GSM only, no LTE). It's where you select the networks (preferred network type). Could be the signal strength might improve a bit.

I phone voda, they say , they got a same model, samsung j1, it does the same. Seems like the phone to them.

I ended up download the apps from www in *.apk , copy it to the phone and install. One very happy lady.
