I have just been hit with a R48000 vodacom bill arising from vodacom billing on the Google play store. The charges were incurred on one of my employees cell phones. I was completely ignorant that this was possible. Vodacom and Google deny any responsibility. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Has anyone any advice RE Icasa, FSB etc?

Unlike these WASP BS crap!, with Google Play you have to verify each purchase. This employee is now your bitch. Refer him/her to the closest capitec with latest payslip.....sure they will be happy to oblige with a personal loan.

The employee claims his Google account was hacked. I also think that Vodacom should not put me in this position. I have multiple contracts. Anyone of those employees could put me in the same position. I have no control over the phone 100% of the time. Every new contract or addition to a contract has to be in writing on a company letterhead. Everyone has limits on their phones. Out of bundle charges has being opted out of. YET an employee, be he hacked or not, can incur R48000 charges on my account with no oversight or protection from Vodacom. I'm questioning on this forum whether it's legal and what recourse I have. The employee cannot afford to pay it back anyway.

He won't be able to pay back. Vodacom should not put me in this position.
They've helped others who got shock bills in the past. Try appeal to jannievanzyl. He's on the forum but has his PM function off you'll need to tag him.

It is one thing to do it with national data where you are in control of the cost etc. In this case, Google billed Vodacom and Vodacom would have had to pay over the dosh to Google. I doubt Jannie will be able to assist with this bill .... but you never know.

Oh I thought it was downloads or similar. So the play store allows you to use Vodacom airtime or what?

Why not? Have you fired him?
It's a lot of money and if his Google account was hacked then not really his fault. I can't understand how I was opted into this and why there are no limits or OTPs or passwords.

Vodacom does not make this clear to subscribers, unless I am particularly ignorant as well as naive. Most financial transactions have limits. ATM withdrawals, credit card limits etc.

I don't buy your employees story. If he/she has a kid under 12 I think you'd find the culprit of these purchases pretty easily.

OP is Vodacom able to give you the purchase history?

BTW if your employee plays candy crush they might done the purchasing themselves

Assume someone hacked and used your play store creds to buy stuff? Surely they have to be traceable? Google have a good refund policy, but suppose if they're in-app purchases you could have a time recovering
