Vodacom boosts broadband network and subscribers

Vodacom boosts profits while sacrificing quality more like it. Oh and Vodacom Blackberry is now operating at ISDN speeds wooohooo
How many people actually experience real world speeds of anywhere close to 10mb?
It seems like Vodacom is more concerned with "broadband" than voice
 
Now for the decrease in data prices... Now that will make the customers happy.
 
thanks to the R289 per gig they can build any network they want. and next month there will be a upgrade to the new network so they will have to stay with the R289 per gig to fund that. this will be a ongoing prosess.

Well, being in East London, at least I'm getting more or less 2008 speeds.
 
used 3G for about 4 months, it's so unreliable and fail, connection comes and goes. Spend more on ADSL but at least it consistent, albeit slow, and uncapped...
 
Guys you need to see the bigger picture here.

At least vodacom are always innovating and progressing. You can say what you want about our mobile operators, but the one thing you cannot take away from them is that they put telkom to shame. (If only Telkom cared)

At least they're not so pathetic as to keep making excuses for why we cannot have good mobile broadband.

The max speed in the table must be seen as a technology descriptor, i.e. it describes the technology deployed at that time.

If you're getting close to 3Mb/s, I believe that's a decent speed for a mobile wireless connection.

Pieter stated numerous times, his aim is to get at least 1Mb/s to EVERY person in SA as part of the Vodacom SuperMobile project we're busy with. While ambitious, and it'll take a lot of time, money and resources, it's a great target to set the company (and the country). It means the 3G network will have to grow substantially, both in size and capacity (thus the drive to roll 43).
 
If they do not say which towers they upgraded, or provide a way to check if a tower near your location has been upgraded, they could be blatantly lying.

What's to stop me from saying that "I, Reelix, have upgraded 5,000 Vodacom towers to new awesome 500MB/s network!" ? No-one knows where these towers are, no-one is able to test my claims, and all they have is my word that the above statement is true (Which, I'm sorry to say - Is not ;))

Whats the use of increasing speed & maintaining these high prices?
We want affordable broadband at a reasonable speed (for me 1-4mb/s) is more than enough.
I have the cellc package but it doesnt help me much for out of town (rural area work).
For that i have to consider suing voda or mtn which cuts deep into my pockets :(

Subscribed to Vodacoms 2GB + 2GB @ R149 special last week - They even provide me with an 21.6 Mb/s speedstick instead of the advertised 7.2 mb/s - which was a nice supprise. Did an speedtest and got 4.5 Mb/s downlink on a 3 out of 5 bar connection strenght. I'm satisfied - well done Vodacom :D

They can have 100 mb/s connections i don't care, 3G is expensive as hell, has crap latency and usually have the names Vodascum and MTN in the description with contracts

You know why they giving you the Vodafone (ZTE) K4505-Z?

Of those sites, 2,650 are 21Mbps enabled and 1,000 43Mbps capable.

I guess enabled means it is actually there and capable means that the vendor claims that it is possible to upgrade some time in the future with only minimal extra outlay.
