Vodacom boosts broadband network and subscribers

I still think it is unethical of Vodacom to sell modems which they know is sub-standard.

I waste 2 hours of my time on Saturday to book this crappy modem in, and the change that they will actually fix it is about zero.

Sorry to hear that...
Well CellC still don't have coverage where I live so I decided to give Vodacom another go and so far so good (hold thumbs)

If they do not say which towers they upgraded, or provide a way to check if a tower near your location has been upgraded, they could be blatantly lying.

What's to stop me from saying that "I, Reelix, have upgraded 5,000 Vodacom towers to new awesome 500MB/s network!" ? No-one knows where these towers are, no-one is able to test my claims, and all they have is my word that the above statement is true (Which, I'm sorry to say - Is not ;))

Listed companies have to be extremely careful when stating numbers. There's substantial legislation around this. Maybe read up a bit about it. It's not as easy as you think it is. ;)

Private companies have more leeway and we've seen some conflicting numbers and statements reported on this site by some of these guys.

But the proof is in the eating and here (well constructed) independent surveys are the best way to gauge service delivery.

Subscribed to Vodacoms 2GB + 2GB @ R149 special last week - They even provide me with an 21.6 Mb/s speedstick instead of the advertised 7.2 mb/s - which was a nice supprise. Did an speedtest and got 4.5 Mb/s downlink on a 3 out of 5 bar connection strenght. I'm satisfied - well done Vodacom :D

You DO realise that (Modem problems aside) you should be getting 4.5Mb/s downlink on the worse modem, and at least triple that on the faster one? :)

Unless you mean MB (Downloading at 4,000kb/s) - At which point I apologise, and wonder what modem I can buy that will let me do the same :D

Let me check what's going on. I know the promo modems are from a brand new batch and the previous issues were supposed to have been resolved. Could be you got an older one, but let me check as I really don't have the exact details.

jannie please check for me if the Allanridge tower will be upgraded, wile VC boasts about the hectic speeds we here still just get EDGE if we lucky.

With around 10 000 sites, I've got no idea where Allanridge is. Maybe PM me your exact address.

Oh yay,
43Mbps = R10.75 per second(R645 per minute) at vodacoms silly out of bundle rate.
How about you get your sms's to deliver on time before messing with this stuff.

Jannie ,

Off this topic, but still Vodacom related.

Why is your free SMS service not working (properly).

Tried again this a.m. - after I log on & simply try to get to the SMS page, it logs me off the site, whether in IE9 or Chrome. Surely a multibillion $ Co. (yes $'s not crummy ZAR's), can get a simple site to work, or has it been set now to frustrate customers so they can't use free SMS's & they'll resort to using paid-for SMS's or Whatsapp or BBM etc. ?

About 2 weeks ago, after struggling, eventually managed to get 2 SMS's to go off.
For about 2 months, on & off (of me using it) service was working fine.

Rather issue a bulletin stating the service cannot be relied upon or one which says it's being discontinued, instead of having us waste time trying to use it.

Any comments on behalf of Vcom ?

Who cares what the tower speed is. I get 2.5Mb/sec to Vodacom Midrand on speedtest.net, but only 350kb/sec to London. Their international links are choked to death and I can't get decent speeds in my area at most times of the day or night.

I assume you mean vodacom.co.za? Clearly she's a broken. Did you report it to anyone? VD, 155?

I'll escalate in any case.

What I would like to see is smaller data packages for the 'advanced speed', as I do not need that much data, but would enjoy the speed.
Alternatively lowering the price would also work:)

Not that it really helps you, mine works fine :)

Yeah, it's not that it's broken all the time. (Although Antonf will disagree :)) That would've been easy to fix. It's when it's intermittent that it becomes more difficult.

Also remember, a gazillion people use the free SMS service (many people ONLY use the free SMS service, they never make a call on the SIM), so the call desk quickly gets flooded with complaints if it does not work.
