Vodacom "broke the Internet"

According to a Vodacom Representative on MyBroadband forum only 35 users phoned in to complain about this. He tries to spin it as if most users are happy with this.

I don’t log a call or complain every time i have an issue with the network or when my cellphone drops calls, but this doesn't mean I am happy with it, I just don’t have the time to sit and try to explain to an operator what my problem is.

So the 35 users that complained, maybe represented close to 350users

So much for it not being a major problem. Pull the "service" already and save face!

That is exactly what I stated in the other thread!

Indeedy, most of us will just save ourselves the frustration. I myself am not happy with Vodacom in any shape or form, they are p*sspoorest service provider of the lot

this is africa... you can do what you please here... just ask old bob

Funny you should mention that, someone said that last week to me with regards to getting something we manufacture, all approved with EN norms

Finally, some proof that his mere presence here is to exercise control over forum criticism levelled at yours truly. I look forward to his comeback on this topic.... the silence makes me die of anticipation

Solution & info for webmasters

If Vodacom displays your site in a broken way, a faster solution than getting them to add you to their exclude list, is to add a "Cache-Control: No-Transform" header to your pages.

See also (what seems to be the same thing that people have been through overseas):

In the UK, people had to pay for this "feature". In ZA, we were unlucky enough to get it for free :)

I never called in to complain. I just stopped using it.

Proof will be in the bandwidth usage rate figures over this period. I would love to see those charts.

According to the Voda representative data usage shot up by 400%. He claims that that is as a result of the service being so successful, when its only logical that people refreshing their pages over and again trying to get rid of the nonsense on their screens or trying to log into various applications time after time is what's causing the increase in usage.

oh yeah, I remember him saying that... but the coming months will tell.

thank goodness i am not on vodacom! otherwise i wouldn't use it.

What would be the legal ramifications of doing this?

I mean its essentially the same as a book store going and editing books for resale to people who only have 1 eye and can only read certain font sizes or location of text? Theoretically its modifying a copyrighted work? Or am I off the ball here?

Any legal eagles out there?

was wondering what on earth was happening with my browser:eek::eek:.my browser was working just fine b4 these bright sods tried to "improve" it. so i just stopped using it n wait till i can get 2 my laptop...

isn't this what people used to do back in the nineties? browsers and portals and what have you trying to 'own' the internet for you? i thought everyone had learnt from that experience, but clearly the mobile boys need to bump their heads there again.

other note: I've been wondering what this new 'technology' from Vodacom was. almost thought it was like Opera Mini.

The mods just went through a whole process to merge all the various threads into one place (in the Vodacom sub forum), so I don't really want to start answering any issues here as it will again create two points to monitor and try and answer, leading to the inevitable duplication of effort.

So I'd rather answer any questions over there: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=124344
