Just finished speaking to Mno at Vodacom Business, took them 4 days to get back to my initial request, but I did get alot of info from him, very helpfull.
* what backbone does it use nationally is it saix, is, vodacom or a hybrid ?
Response: It uses the Telkom IP Connect network, so your speeds are 1024-4096 Kbps
* what backbone does it use international is it sat3 or satelite ?
Response: sat3
* what is the capacity of this network the adsl is running on ?
* what is the expected contention ratio ?
Did not ask, not a factor.
* is it contract or month 2 month ?
month to month
* is there going to be a setup fee ?
he did not mention a setup fee, but am still in the consideration phase
* what about telephone line rental fees ?
You pay that to telkom, they can manage/takeover it for you as part of your bill.
* what about dsl line rental fees ?
Same as telkom?
* is there any restrictions such as xDay rollover or certian times its throttled or unthrottled ?
No restrictions, or none that he mentioned during my "interrogation".
* is it static or dynic ip ?
static
* how many concurrent connections is allowed ?
have you ever had uncapped with static? you don't get login info, its managed by them through your router....
* can i use my own router/modem or is a router/modem provided ?
no, you have to use their router, currently its cisco, but they are testing a billion which should be available to the users of the service in about 3 months time. (see costs of service below)
* where can i read the complete terms of service ?
See vodacom terms of service.
* is there going to be a choice of uncapped in terms of shaped or unshaped, pure uncapped without any limiteds or a limited uncaped service with something like a throttle during work hours ?
No limits from what I can gather, the convo did go on for about an hour.
* is there going to be after hours support on these uncapped accounts ?
Yes, same as with any vodacom service.
* what kind of payment methods are accepted ?
CASH! they don't accept cows or hard labor as payment.
Anyway, why don't you phone them yourself, they take down your details and have a specialist consultant phone you back, usually within 24 hours, that is 8 hours per work day, so give or take, 3 business days at most. On their account, you can ask them all the info you need.
Well, costs involved?
The article writer could have done a better job to actually investigate the claims of R2399 per month.
Mweb Business charge: R3306 per month, use IS -> satellite, that is Uncapped, static, Cisco Router and Vat included, they don't specify how much for the router per month.
Vodacom charges as follow:
R2399 EXCLUDING VAT, which now makes it R2734.86 per month
Separately charged is the router at R471.92 per month (incl. VAT)
Total: R3272.86 which makes it R33.14 per month cheaper than M-Web.
BUT!!!BUT!!!BUT!!!BUT!!!
It is alot faster than the throttled "business" alternative that MWEB offers.
Also, they are testing a new billion router that, if complies, will replace the Cisco routers and will be about R300 per month cheaper than its counterpart. Once these routers are available, they will replace your Cisco and charge you less per month accordingly. No extra fees for the swopout.
Well, all in all, it is a better solution, faster and cheaper, but price to price comparison, they cost about the same. Stating R2399, makes it look alot cheaper, but under the skin its the same price basically with all the VAT and extra router charges charged separately.
My 2c (inflation, higher food, oil & fuel prices, +20% rates & taxes, +34% electricity = R2,12c in fact).
