If they can offer packages similar to those on their 3g network, they will own the SMB/Home User market. Lots of people are sick of the failing Telkom infrastructure

I first need to get to know the products.

But if you guys post a set of clearly worded questions, I can forward it so long.

Maybe you can cerate post as a place holder and then compile everyone's questions into that one post. Then I can forward by next week Tuesday to get answers on all of them?

regardless....this is still way to expensive for uncapped services
 
Is Vodacom using their own new fibre backbone or tapping off IS?

  • what backbone does it use inland (saix, is, vodacom or hybrid) and outland (sat3 or satelite)
  • i would also be interisted to know the capasity of this backbone if its their own mixture
  • contention ratio
  • contract, month 2 month
  • setup fee
  • rental fees
  • restrictions such as rollover
  • static or dynic ip
  • concurrent connections
  • own modem or provided modem
  • ToS

and what about the pricing....dont you think that it is over the top for an "uncapped" service? surely we should be paying R500 for like a 4MB line uncapped, throttled down to 512k after a 15GB threshold?

I agree absolutely, but the article states that Vodacom uncapped is cheaper than their competition. So it is important to know whether these are equivalent accounts. For example, the biggest benefit of some uncapped accounts is liberal offpeak usage, where you can use the line to the max (4Mb/s), regardless of whether your uncapped accounts is 384k, 512k, or 1Mb/s.

The Devil is in the detail.
 
As usual the little guys are getting the raw deal, the business packages look great but I bet if you get all the terms and conditions the package will be quiet ordinary. Not great encouragement for getting ADSL penetration into low income groups - Vodacom trying to tap into existing market which is already flooded. Come on Vodacom take the leap and try and be a leader in providing cheap bandwidth with out trying f**k us all. VANS get there bandwith at R45/GB - VODACOM R70. Shop around there much better bandwidth deals out there.
 
Considering that MTNNS has been reselling access to ADSL bandwidth for ages, it is a very late start for Vodacom [Business] in the ADSL reseller arena, but it is a start, and there are a lot of competing resellers of ADSL, so Vodacom Business will have to do something about those shaped and unshaped prices before anyone seriously considers Vodacom Business for basic access to ADSL bandwidth.

As for the uncapped pricing etc, let's see what happens when SEACOM is online.

In summary, it is a start [albeit very late].
 
This article does not mention anything about line rental and having to do business with Telkom for a phone line. Why not share 'all' the 'facts'.

we (my work) are connected via mtnns's dsl offerings.

  • what is the expected contention ratio ?
  • is it contract or month 2 month ?
  • is there going to be a setup fee ?
  • what about telephone line rental fees ?
  • what about dsl line rental fees ?
  • is there any restrictions such as xDay rollover or certian times its throttled or unthrottled ?
  • is it static or dynic ip ?
  • how many concurrent connections is allowed ?
  • can i use my own router/modem or is a router/modem provided ?
  • where can i read the complete terms of service ?
  • is there going to be a choice of uncapped in terms of shaped or unshaped, pure uncapped without any limiteds or a limited uncaped service with something like a throttle during work hours ?
  • is there going to be after hours support on these uncapped accounts ?
  • what kind of payment methods are accepted ?
