Vodacom CEO discusses data pricing and rigid contracts

let me get this straight...the only reason we are paying such high bandwidth costs with vodacom is because they couldnt handle the traffic, if they reduced prices?

incredible

I love this bullshlt line.

"Uys said that the price of data was going to fall, but that to engage in a wholesale price slashing would have a real impact on the quality of service that Vodacom customers experienced on its network."

Sure buddy, sure.Vodacom's greed shines through on que as always.

They already lost me years ago. First I went to Amobia which offer cheaper wireless and then to Mweb uncapped. I highly doubt that I will ever go with Vodacom again even if they start offering uncapped services. They screwed me over for far too long.

Wow - such heated responses - and well justified!
i agree - Ben, as one of your avid supporters, i do feel you let us down with this great oportunity you had.
I did dot think you would be so easily intimidated!

I just picture the scene....Mr Uys and all his journalists sitting in a circle in the reception area of Vodaworld, smoking hubbly bubbly.

:)

i read the article and listened to the drivel being sprouted... all i can tell you is that after reporting a problem of dropping calls on on Rivonia road (every time I had a call on my bluetooth it would drop at Rivonia/10th) - the call centre person i spoke to about the problem told me 'why don't you just call them back.'

i took his advice, and i call them regularly from my MTN phone now, and the call hasn't dropped once.

consumers, don't take this kind of crap from service providers. porting my number was effortless and painless... they just make it sound awkward but its actually very easy.

you have options, take them! i bulleted vodacom after 6 years of paying over R1500 per month on a contract, and having moved to MTN, i'm getting better call quality in the area i live, better data connectivity, they had an iphone4 in stock, and they are cheaper than vodadom.

so love you and goodbye vodacom - i really dont care what excuses the CEO has - because i have a choice, and i made a choice to give vodacom an extended middle finger.

.!..

so glad to be your EX-customer.

Don't let them brainwash you by inviting you to see the CEO. And when you get there, don't take any nonsense. Tell them you are sick of their excuses and ask them, WHEN, exactly WHEN, they are going to drop their prices. They always have other excuses but they will never admit that they are ripping us off.

Cell C has promised to have 97% of the country covered by third quarter 2011. So how are they getting their cables done and Vodacom can't?

Also which contracts have had increase in minutes?

By the time Vodacom decides their service can handle more customers, Cell C will have > 9 million customers.

Vodacom - we DONT want more customers!

Go somewhere else!

Hi,

Im Vodacom, we are doing our best to give you an inferior 1mb connection at incredibly expensive charges, but dont worry, while the lines are only 1mb we will advertise it at 7 times the speed to get more suckers. We have absolutely no intention of becoming a relevant service provider and are intent on sinking our ship to be another Sentech. We are too lazy to increase our infrastructure.

Kind regards, Vodacom

Thats basically what I got from that.
