Last year beginning of August I cancelled my Vodacom 3G contract, since my 2 years were finished. The shop "lost" the copy of my ID, so I had to go back a month later and cancel again! (clever way of stealing an extra month's subscription!)

Final amount was deducted from my bank on 28 September, my line was disconnected, I thought everything was done!
End December I cleaned house, chucked all the old (so I thought) Vodacom papers away!!!

TODAY I received a FINAL DEMAND from Vodacom Service Provider Company (Pty) Ltd informing me that they have previously notified me (b*ll****) that I owe them an additional R3195.27!!!!!! (considerably overdue no-less!)

Furthermore they are threatening to:

1. Black list me.
2. Institute legal proceedings.

How does a contract cancellation get un-done? Where does this R3195.27 come from? Why is this the first written document to reach me? Why haven't they even bothered to phoned me on my contact number (Vodacom Pre-paid)?
[I smell FRAUD]
[/rant]

Tomorrow I shall phone Vodacom, see what I can find out, but I am not hopefull, their helpline is as clear as muddy water on these matters!

SO: Remember to get physical proof of ANYTHING you deal with Vodacom and keep it forever, they just throw their copies away, and make it YOUR problem!

I'm inclined to say that you are reaching for straws since Tallies' post relates to a supposedly cancelled contract with zero data usage, or maybe identity fraud as another possible option that comes to mind.

I was thinking that same thing.

I was thinking that same thing.
I opened an envelope today to find a bank statement for a credit card I never asked for and never received a card for, it's what made me think of the identity fraud possibility.

I've seen unauthorised SIM Swops done too many times, and heard of Sales Consultants doing Illegal SIM Swops and cleaning out customers' bank accounts.

Thats what made me think of identity fraud.

What can you do in the case of identity fraud?

Can't you dispute the whole thing saying that you never signed the papers, or what?

Prepaid looks more and more attractive...

Thanks for all the replies.

Seems this may be more serious than I thought, so I decided to contact Legalwise before contacting Vodacom.

I have sent Legalwise an e-mail, will check for an answer in 1 hour, if none I will phone them.

Will post again as soon as I get a response.
