Vodacom cuts selected prepaid data prices

Currently buy 3Gb - but hardly ever use it - used to have a fixed 30Gb monthly allocation across 4 devices which was great - but - when Covid hit - became redundant.
You can use airmobile. You buy 2G for R139 and you get 1G for free. The 3G last for 3 months. They run on MTN.

So R85 for a bundle that was R149 6 years ago? Meanwhile data rates have increased 10x and it's projected that in 2025 the average cellphone will consume 100GB.
Where did you get that figure? Seems wrong or based on a very specific user group.

I get 1GB for free on Afrihost mobile and no I'm not on any package. Just 1 GB free every month.

Aaaand it rolls over.

What's the alternatives besides Rain/Telkom.

I buy Vodacom prepaid data purely because I haven't bother investigating alternatives.

Go to a kwerekwere cellphone shop and buy a pre-rica'd Telkom sim.

Pop it into the second sim slot of your cellphone. Dial *123#. If there's no good options for Data on that, buy the standard Telkom LTE 10Gb +10Gb that is valid for 60 days for R149 (R74.50 per month for 5Gb of day/5Gb night data basically).

Been doing it for over 2 years, lol.

No R69 charge.
You are lucky, from their site:

1GB FREE Mobile Data Promotion. This promotion is valid for any new signups or package changes. You will get 1GB free mobile data every month for the first 3 months from signup. You have to log into the Afrihost App every month to claim your free data - if you fail to do so, your free data will be forfeited for that month. From month 4 onwards you need to spend at least R69 on mobile data per month in order to continue getting your free 1GB data. Afrihost reserves the right to revise, extend or stop this promotion at any time.

The link says 60 days - but I might be keen to try this.

Any idea with the 60 days, is it first in first out? i.e. if I buy 3GB monthly, will it use the first purchased data "first" before using the new bundle?

Some months I use nothing - e.g. in the last 30 days I've used 200Mb of my Vodacom 3Gb bundle thats expiring.

Also - Vodacom seems to have become really shitty in my area. Yesterday fibre was down for 3 hours - and my Vodacom LTE connection managed 100Mb - I couldn't work.

Out of interest - where do you see the Telkom options? Their website is shitty.

The link say "at least 60 days", so it depends on what time of the month you buy. If you buy the 1st day it will basically be the current month plus 60 days.

As far as I know the data is first in first out, maybe @AfriNatic can confirm.

Yes it's indeed first in first out.

Pop a prepaid Telkom sin into your phone.

Dial *180# to change your tariff plan to , select option that says "Tariff change".Change to the "Smart Broadband Wireless LTE-A" plan.

After that, dial *180# and purchase the smarbroadband prepaid bundles. Don't buy the R99 bundle - it is only valid for 31 days. The rest of the bundles (From R149 onwards) are valid for 61 days.

Their website says the R149 is also only 31 days.

At this rate, I'll be moving from Telkom shortly. 14 SMS messages in 24 hours.

What is terrible.

The chance is good you going to have the same problem if you move to Airmobile. They run on MTN who is probably worse.
Bloody annoying, continual links to download the Telkom App, telling me when I've left the Telkom network and data is now disabled. Reminders I can buy roaming data. Etc.

Looking for an app to disable SMS messages from the sim.
