Home sweet home :)
Sorry if this has been discussed before, and if one can find the answer on vodacom.co.za but that website probably is only simple to the webmasters of vodacom.co.za

However, according to vodacom.co.za they now carry data over 3 months? Is this correct? I have unused mb's from March/April/May and according to the site the total available is all 3 added up.(based on balances page after logging in)

Can someone tell me if they know how this work now?

You can only carry over data for up to 60 days. The website will show you the amount of data you have used for the month and also add up the total bundle available. The remaining bundle is what you have left from the current bundle and the total available adds the remaining bundle with the data carried over from the previous month.

Mine shows march and april's data balance but does not reflect anything for May ?

Hi All

What happened to my "carried over data"? Someone from Vodacom here on the Forum?

See below:

2.3 Gig
Month Threshold Used Bundle Remaining Bundle Expiry Date
June 2.30GB 0.00 MB 2.30GB 20100731
May 2.30GB 1.84GB 468.78 MB 20100630
April 2.00GB 1.94GB 64.85 MB 20100531

Somehow this does not happen i'm afraid. I had 160mb available for May when posting my question, and 496mb from April. So to test your theory i downloaded last night about 200mb worth of data. Now it shows I have used all my data for May, still on 496mb for April and I got an sms saying I have reach 50% of my call limit on my data card. ( I have a R100 limit on it so that i dont go over my monthly limit, for some reason there is also no way to prevent oneself from going over your monthly 'cap' or 'bundle' whatever you wanna call it.

So basically no data carried over and luckily I had a limit in place (the sms came through at 12 today when i went over 50% last night already). Seems you are mistaken as to Vodacom carrying any data over as you indicated earlier, just tell people you do so that they can download a whole lot of data at R1.20 per mb.... (if R1.20 has changed then I apologise but I cant find data prices on the vodacom website since they changed the site)

K just checked again the last month it show up to is April, no May and now no June ???

its there. and all indications are that you can use it as it shows Total Remaining and then Current and previous month added up, but from last nights test I did once you use your current months mb's it goes over to charging you per megabyte, whether you got from your previous month or not. Changed my contract from 2 gig to 500mb 2 months ago, will be sure to cancel it as soon as I can get out of it.

I guess this is just about the same reason they advertise Edge in basically whole country but most places like where I stay you are lucky if you get gprs rates....

I assume you're on contract?

Data downloaded last night would most likely only be taken off your account this morning, after April's data had expired.

most likely.... there should be a fact answer of how they work. I cant pay a 'round about figure' each month, i pay an amount to the cent. They are quick enough to know when they can charge me extra, so should be quick enough to know I havent gone over my bundle yet... perhaps htey should focus less on getting 21mbps inside vodaworld and more on serving their customers with info that affect all customers and not just the few that live near vodaworld towers

funny how vodacomdata has a quick reply when it may appear he got something 'good' to say abuot vodacom, when proven that its nonsense what he said he is dead quiet.

So bottom line is there is no roll over on data contracts then.

Funny how some people only come here to complain. What exactly are you referring to?

Yes there is roll-over on contract, but due to how it works you can only roll-over every 2nd month. I have been on contract since the start of roll-over and have managed to make use of it without losing out. So clearly you are doing it wrong.

my original post here was actually 'good' about vodacom as if things work the way their website does, its awesome that their data carry over 1 month....

how can u roll over every '2nd' month and how can one 'do rollover wrong' ?

when posting the original post vodacom.co.za said I have:
May: 160mb
April : 496mb
March: some other figure
Total remaining: 656mb (Current month and remaining from previous month combined)

So i asked on site as I expected to only have 160 available. Vodacomdata then basically confirmed i shuold have 656 available as website indicates. Then I went and downloaded 200mb to test this. I got billed for the 40mb that i went 'over' my bundle.

I'm sorry if you feel I complain and am confused. But yes I am confused as 2 Vodacom sources said I can use previous month bundle and then I still get billed.

Yes its only 40mb, but I was testing. Say someone wqith 10gb bundle has his bundle from previous month unused, then this month goes and download 20gb only to find out the last 10gb he downloaded was @ R1.20 per mb? or say vodacom get 50mb @ R1.20 from each customer, thats big money for a 'confusing policy'... I am not complaining, I am just trying to understand how this rollover thing work, or if one should just assume there is no rollover.

Vodacom take the data from your new bundle before using the leftovers from the previous month.
So you have to use up your entire new bundle before being able to use any of the leftovers.
Once you have used up your new bundle, there will be nothing left to carry over to the next month, so it is impossible to carry over for two consecutive months.

As far as I'm concerned it is Vodacom that are "doing rollover wrong", but I think what morkhans means is once you are aware of Vodacom's over-complicated rules you can minimize the amount of data that "expires" unused.

please read my previous post then.... I had from current month and the previous months bundle left. yet when i finished the current month, they started billing me instead of using from the previous months bundle

Have you logged a query with 155? If so, PM the reference number to VD.

Thanks ginngs. This is pretty much what I meant.

Yes Vodacom can go a long way to improving how roll-over currently works. It's really is very much all in their favour at this stage.

@albert123 - If what you say is correct, then yes there is something amiss. As far as I am concerned data downloaded in May should count towards May's bundle, even if the billing system only does the calculation in June it should still be able to see that the data was generated in May. There is also the whole timing issue on when the actual billing system applies the new bundle, I guess logically they cannot do this for millions of customers at 23:59 on month end so their could be variance. Best is to get VodacomData to see what was deducted when.
