I received a derogatory message 4 this morning from a 082 number, however the number was 11 digits and not 10

Who can I contact to lodge a complaint other than SAPS

Any input will be highly appreciated

What was the message you received? Sounds like a company's marketing number...

the message content is not relevant

it was not of a marketing nature

What was the message ? not irrelevant.
ie " your breath stinks" - go and brush teeth
or "we are going to bah-bah you" - call police

Ok a message sent to my 62yr old mother sent at 4am saying that they going to have sex with her --- does this spell rape??

Do u blame me for getting hyper

She is an estate agent who advertises in the usual media

People are sick. Unfortunately you will have to go through SAPS to open a case first. If you have the case number and details of the officer, you can phone Vodacom, so they can trace the number. Then they send it to the cops and steps will be taken.

I had a similar issue with a lady friend (she received rude messages, explicit, inciting rape etc.) a few years back and it was sorted within a week of the procedure being followed.

I recall a website where one can search for the company based on these types of phone numbers - had something to do with WASPA IIRC but I cant find it.

DiabloJ - post the number that this was sent from and I am sure someone will help you...;)

To be honest, that won't help the situation at all, it might add fuel to it. Rather follow the correct methods/procedure and do it as it should be.

Er, why!? If there is a service to find out who sent you the message, why not use it? Not sure what you are on about here tera

It might be an employee of a company fscking around, and TBH, having dealt with the cops before on matters like this, I would much rather do it myself thanks - a message saying someone want to have sex with someone else is not criminal at all - why would the cops spend resources on this?

It is criminal bro. If you tell someone you ARE going to have sex with them, then it constitutes as a threat, rape, because the individual has not consented.

Believe me when I say it. My lady friend received about 25 extremely explicit sms messages a few years ago. We live in a small town in the Lowveld and the Police force does not need medals for their public service or bravery, but this was sorted efficiently.

I can't remember the site to search for these numbers either. If we can provide a link, he can search for it himself, without posting the number.

It is not rape, maybe intimidation ? Rape is penetratioon

It's a threat of rape. Without getting all technical and turning the thread into a mud slinging match, there are procedures. Vodacom will not, ever, trace a number for you if they don't have a Police Case for it. Irrespective of who is missing, what was stolen or sent you what.

All the Cellular provider's work this way.

Post the number - name and shame dammit!!! Whats the issue with posting the number of a WASP who has sent a derogatory message?

And there is nothing criminal about it tera. If I send you a message saying I am going to have sex with you, you will have no criminal case against me. You might have a case to have me commited to an insane asylum though...:p

You cannot asume that the receiver will not consent at a later stage. Lord knows I have sent messages to plenty women about my intentions which have very often resulted in consent. There was nothing criminal about my actions. Think about it tera - it is disgusting what this person has done, but it is not criminal. Now, had the sender explicitly stated that they are going to rape her, well that is another story altogether...

I'd also rather go the legal route. Too many issues these days.

There are other *cough* ways of finding out who it is without opening a case. ;)
Otherwise go open a case of intimidation and wait 6 months or more for the SAPS to come back with answers.

I don't think you need to educate marine1 on these procedures - he knows them pretty damn well AFAIK...;)

I'm not educating marine1, I'm educating the public. It's my duty ;) :D :p

Its Smscode - www.smscode.co.za

Seeing as the no. was 11 digits it could have been sent from a website offering sms services, so no. belongs to the website (company) and not the individual that sent the message. SO first go to the smscode website, and see if you can find out who owns the no., once you get the company info, try contacting them and ask them for assistance, if smscode doesn't have the owner details for that no. you'll probably have to go to vodacom.

Could it be possible that the message was sent to the wrong number? Maybe someone sent it and typed the wrong no. ??
