Hi,

See below mail header. I was investigating a case where one of my users was complaining of slow mail on the receiving side. The mail in question was being sent to her by a vodamail user. Our mail server is hosted at IS.

I have highlighted the times sent from her PC (bottom most time) and the time received by vodamails mx server (middle time), it took 51 minutes !! Interestingly it then another 6 minutes to reach my server (top time). Is it their amavisd-new interface that could have been congested ?

Who could I speak to at Vodacom to query this ? I have plenty users in this situation and need to know how I can improve on this.

When did this problem start, and have you considered the possibility that there might have been or still is, peering link congestion?

You could try emailing [email protected] - although I'm not sure if that's the most direct email address to use for this sort of issue.

I had emails sent this morning via smtp.vodacom.co.za also delayed by almost an hour.

Hey IC

The problem was reported to me yesterday (Thursday) I am not sure if it has been going on before that.

I would just like to pinpoint the problem and not just put it down to peering links problems. Need to see how I can avert this situation as response time is critical in my line of work.

There might be a few reasons for the delays, including grey-listing.

But report it to the postmaster @ vodamail dot coza and ask them. Although not the correct address, maybe CC abuse @ vodamail dot coza as well. I think it gets to the same people.

If you don't get a timeous answer from them, PM me and I'll give you another private e-mail to use to report it.

As always thanks V3g..

Will PM you if I'm having any further problems

Dunno where you find the time for all these responses !

No problem :)

Let me know how long it took to get an answer.

Ok, thanks again !

I received this today. Will let you know when I do get an answer .

I am also finding this e-mail delay a major pain. When doing internet banking, I need to enter a one time password in order to do various things on Standard Banks site. The one time password (OTP) is sent via e-mail (I know - I should have chosen the sms option). The site times out and logs me off after 5 minutes of inactivity. Sometimes up to an hour later I get the OTP in my inbox. I have been trying at all hours of the day (even 5am and 1am) to set up a new beneficiary using this method, and I simply can't do it. Worst of all, in order to change the delivery method for the OTP from e-mail to sms, I need to use an OTP....sent via e-mail! :(

Go to the bank or call the bank's helpdesk to help you change it?

Yes, fair enough for now, but what of this delay getting mail all the time? Frankly, I'm considering dropping my vodamail address altogether, and using gmail. On many occasions I get "server error - cannot connect to pop3.vodamail," blah, blah. I've actually had enough of it.

Trust me, there is no need to think about switching to GMail, just use GMail without giving it any further thought, you can even configure GMail to collect emails from your Vodamail account, and you can also configure GMail to send emails as if they were sent from your Vodamail account. Use GMail, you will not be sorry :).
