Vodacom extortion

Caller Line Identity (CLIP) and Itemized Billing have always been a extra charge. Do I agree with charging for it in this day and age? No. Specially seeing as Prepaid customers dont have to, but that is how it is. Some existing business customers might have it loaded as a free service (as part of a deal they took in the past). The current business deals for example has CLIP activated @ R10.00 default, but itemized billing is included for free (deal dependent). This normally carries forward even if a contract is transferred into a individual account etc.

Im with Vodacom and prepaid. What service are you talking about?
That when people call you, you can see who is calling. Mine simply says "hidden number" or "unknown number", so you can't see who is calling and can't block the damned telemarketers.

I now know what it is. The only time I can't see a number is when the caller set their number to private. Never knew some people had to pay for it.

Money to pay Makate has to come from someone, when will you guys learn? Move on over to MTN.
Trust me, I will be moving over to MTN when my contracts end - all four of them. So much for being a loyal customer for 20 years ...

I am on a Vodacom contract and have been since September 1998.
I just checked on my last invoice, and the Caller Identity is first added, then removed in the next line. I do not have any fancy or corporate contract.

Hey, you scored 20 years of free CLIP

Despite my multiple frustrations with Vodacom, I stay with them - better the devil you know. The grass is not always greener on the other side…

Go and read the MTN thread, also unhappy customers, nothing is perfect

Geez, why are people still signing contracts with mobile networks. Been on prepaid for over a decade now, would never go back to a stupid contract.

The main reason is to be able to get the uber expensive shiny brag piece without having to pay for it upfront. Said shiny brag piece = high end iPhone usually

Indeed. I remember when a cellphone contract was almost like a status symbol, and now it's just become a way to finance a phone you can't really afford.

The phone is now the status symbol. I've seen it before. They have top-of-the-range iPhone but installed on it is all kinds of rubbish games. They don't even use half of it's features. It's all for show. 6 months later the screen is cracked all over

I find it so bizarre that people have almost become brainwashed that they must get a phone from their network provider, when it's much better to buy a phone from a third-party like Takealot or wherever. For example, dual sim phones are rarely available from network providers. Most of them seem to refuse to stock them for obvious reasons. Heaven forbid you should be tempted to put a sim card from a different provider in that second slot.
