Vodacom extortion

for me I always buy own devices and sign up for sim only deals for two reasons.

1. Connivance of having the contract and not having to worry about airtime data etc, I pretty much got it to the point were I use 90 - 95% of my minutes and data by the end of the month.

2. I do fair amount overseas travel and need the roaming option to receive incoming calls on my number ( I just add an esim for data)

Geez, why are people still signing contracts with mobile networks. Been on prepaid for over a decade now, would never go back to a stupid contract.

Nope. My son has an MTN contract (which I pay for - he was wise and didn't want Vodacom), and his phone identifies numbers and there is no CLIP R10 on his bill.
Sometimes it's included in the package base cost and other times not, but the fact of the matter is CLIP is nothing new.

eg. Past article on it

International roaming works perfectly on prepaid sims though. Never had a problem in all the years I've been on prepaid. As for convenience, with FNB online banking you can setup a scheduled airtime and data bundle purchase that automatically tops up your airtime and data bundles every month without ever having to think about it.

Thread venting thread just keep on getting more petty by the day.

R10 extortion

What I meant to also mention, now that all Vodacom sim only contracts can be cancelled with 30 days notice.
To me I’m basically in pre paid with the benefit of been a Vodacom direct customer with a better rate.
I know it’s mostly anecdotal evidence but it appears mtn and Vodacom direct customers get a better service than MNVO/CellC clients

Employment benefit: a R30k per annum allowance. Use it or lose it. I loathe contracts but I like free money.

I find it so bizarre that people have almost become brainwashed that they must get a phone from their network provider, when it's much better to buy a phone from a third-party like Takealot or wherever. For example, dual sim phones are rarely available from network providers. Most of them seem to refuse to stock them for obvious reasons. Heaven forbid you should be tempted to put a sim card from a different provider in that second slot.
I have the contracts so that we can upgrade phones when necessary. I usually take the cheapest one, but I still can't afford to buy it outright from Takealot etc. It's more affordable to pay for it monthly than in one upfront payment. That is the ONLY reason I have a contract (or rather multiple contracts ...)
