On Friday 16 May I noticed that I only have 380Mb left of my 2Gig Bundle. So I went to http://www.vodacom4me.co.za/ to order an extra 2 Gig for the rest of the month. So I ordered the extra 2 Gig and thought that I was clever ordering it in time so that I do not have to pay the exorbitant out of bundle fees Vodacom charges.

To my surprise I noticed today a sms I received on the 19th saying that my bundle was depleted. So I phoned 082111 to ask what this meant.

So the lady told me that my 2 gig bundle was depleted BUT she says that there are no sign of an extra 2 Gig ordered on Friday. So although the system told me that I ordered extra bundle and I must wait something like up to 48 hours for it to be activated they never activated it.

In the mean time I used something like R350's worth of out of bundle data while I thought that I was still using the in bundle rates.

When I complained the lady just said that she is sorry and she cannot do anything about it, all she can do is to load the 2 Gig I wanted 5 days ago now.

So this means that I am paying R350 extra this month, over and above the extra bundle I just loaded, because Vodacom's service is not working as it should.

Is this http://www.vodacom4me.co.za/ service actually working? On a previous occasion I used their contact service for an account query and never ever received any response from that site.

Is there anybody at Vodacom who can go check that system, see that I ordered this bundle on Friday 16 May and that it was now only loaded today.

Same thing happened to me at the end of last year. I was pissed at Vodacom. the excuse was also that the Vodacom4me website is not a 100% reliable. If you read the terms and conditions on the site it states that the service offered on the site can't be guaranteed. It's also no use sending email to complain cause the emails just don't get answered or if it gets answered you don't get answered. I’ve spoken to reps from Vodacom about it and was told that you have to phone customer service if you want to be 100% sure that extra data was loaded on your account.

There is ONE Vodacom service that WORKS....

It is called Pre-paid Data Bundles. Why anyone would ever sign up for a Vodacom data contract is beyond me. The modem is anything but "free" (just bought an unlocked E272 modem on ebay for 1/3 of Vodacom's price!), you have zero control over the bill and you pay exactly the same rate per Gb!

Wish I knew that almost 2 years ago when I joined.

It is amazing how big companies can get away with such fraud and then just pull up their shoulders and say : Sorry, you are supposed to know that our service is not reliable and it is your responsibility to check that our service is working otherwise you pay extra for our poor service

I also use the PAYG data bundles - much better control of the billing.

Please give us a link to the Ebay seller of the modems - if it was an Ebay shop.
I tried a search but wasn't successful.

I bought mine of the uk ebay site (www.ebay.co.uk) - cost me R868 delivered. You can also try www.ebay.co.za. Unlocking a locked modem is also easy, a friend bought a locked modem and it cost him 15 Euro to unlock with dc-unlocker, total cost also around R850. The saving more than paid for a Poynting antenna, and the balance of the saving was spent on useful stuff, not even data bundles...

Piet, after you bought the bundle (can you explain which steps you took, as well), what info did you get back? Especially the bit where you say the system told you the transaction was successful. We've traced this but can't see this on the system.

Did you see the following text? :

If you have activated a Data Bundle (Bolt-On or Ad-hoc) please confirm that it is active before making use of it. To do so, please click here and check that it appears on the presented page in a section titled Data Bundles

It would then take you to the Balances page so you can see if your bundle is active.

This info is also there:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Ad-hoc Data Bundles:

· The activation of ad-hoc data bundles may take up to 24 hours to be effected. You will receive a confirmation SMS once the activation has been successful.

· If you have an existing data bundle, and it has been depleted, then normal out-of-bundle data rates will apply for data usage until the activation has been successful.

· Unused data in your data bundle will be forfeited at the end of this calendar month.

· You can view your existing unused bundles under the My Account… Account Info link.

Bolt-on Data Bundles:

· The activation of new bolt-on data bundles may take up to 24 hours to be effected. You will receive a confirmation SMS once the activation has been successful.

· If you have an existing bolt-on data bundle, your new bolt-on data bundle will only become available on the first day of the next calendar month.

· Depending on the date of activation of the data bundle, pro-rata subscription fees will be charged. Unused data in your data bundle will be forfeited at the end of every calendar month.

· You can view your existing unused bundles under the My Account… Account Info link.

Cool, but that aside, can you help with the info required above?

As I said, we can't see where you performed the transaction on 4me and especially that you could have gotten a transaction successful message back.

V3G, as an aside, the message about unused ad hoc data being forfeit at month end needs to be updated, as that is no longer the case.

3g

After I did the transaction the page came that told me that the bundle will be added within in the next 24 or 48 hours (cant remember if it was 24 or 48). Because I ordered it in time, while I still had something like 340 Mb left, I decided that 24 or 48 hours would be enough time.
