Vodacom faces BEE lawsuit

Vodacom's plans to finalise its three-year black economic empowerment (BEE) transaction has hit another snag. Tiger Consortium, one of the losing bidders for the R7.5 billion empowerment deal, filed an urgent court interdict against Vodacom this week.

just because they bee and lost now they upset? time to start wee :D

I am still unsure as to exactly what Tiger's gripe is and on what grounds they are taking this to court?

I think there is more to this than meets the eye. It is a pity that the article does not say how this consortium is made up. Is the interest held by Black employees direct, or is it through Communications Workers' Union? If it is the latter, I smell Cosatu's hand in this as Vodacom chose to go with partners that are considered to be neutral in as far as Zuma/Mbeki camps are concerened.

As for Vodacom's choice in the end, the guys are established and the cost of the deal won't hurt their bottom line as they can both afford the shares out of their own pockets.

The Pie

If you have been working your behind off making the pie, I believe that watching someone else come and just buy their way into eating most of it, you would be disgruntled as well.

Look at how most South African of European descent complain about BEE and AA... they are so used to not working to ward making the pie and enjoying all the priviledges that go with eating it... it's hard to get use dto sharing with those that actually made the pie..

I guess there is so much money involved one would expect a bit of haggling :D

BEE and AA is whats ruining this country...

fraking right.....

Since when living in democracy and equality, demands active implementation of discriminatory practices ?

Which is effectively what BEE and AA are, discriminatory implements hiding under auspices of distribution of wealth amongst previously disadvantaged.

For haven sake, this is equivalent to valvet monkey demanding a claim against population of chimpanzees, for chimps have been able to evolve higher on the food chain, due to their aggressive nature and carnivore ability to feed on the flesh, which they used to there advantage during the time of drought when plants life where scares, and velvet monkeys unjustly did not get a chance to progress same way as chimps.
