Vodacom Festive Faces SPAM mms!

v3g, please don't try and make this Skeptik's problem. Just another example of "the customer is NOT always right" mentality most companies in this country has.

There are two issues here, the actual topic where we're discussing the MMS campaign and the issues around unsolicited mail.

The second issue came in when Skeptik used the topic to make a bunch of claims in an attempt to discredit Vodacom and when asked to substantiate he refuses to give any information to either help resolve the problem or to substantiate that it happened in the first place.

This is common practise from Skeptik, read from his previous posts and you'll see this. He'll say something like Vodacom's call-back don't work but won't let us trace the call to see where it broke. Everyone else who made a statement like that reacted positively when I asked for the numbers to trace what went wrong, and we could therefore resolve it. Exactly why we partake on this forum; you have a problem, I try and resolve it.

Or in this case he received a MMS on a non MMS phone and again we would like to see what went wrong. (I seriously doubt this happened in the first place and therefore would like to check it out)

But the specific statement I would like to get clarity on is the one where he says he opted out from all Vodacom communications. I would really like to know how he did it as I'm not aware of such a capability.

If he could enlighten us, all other forumites would benefit from this, exactly the reason the forum exists.

fyre, it's not about who is right or wrong. Rather it should be; Here are the facts, let's discuss around that. You'll see from Vodacom's communications here that we feel very strong that facts and only facts are placed on the table. We don't speculate or make false claims in an attempt to discredit another forum member.

Just wish all forumites would partake in this way. But guess I'm naive to think there aren't people out there who can only get attention by attacking.

I've been lurking for a while now watching and looking. You claim to represent the company on the forum is that right?

I say that your attitude is very strange. The way you take things and how you do it headon and how you wont accept criticism at all.

Customer service is not for every person. I wouldnt let you anywhere near a customer with your current attitude.

Although there is a great deal of sorting out VC problems involved in our / my participation here, I think it's important that it's not just a 'bot' type environment, where you're fed standardised, clinical type responses. Or keep quiet when patent obvious lies are told.

Rather I believe in open, honest discussions and am pretty sure this is what the forum requires, née demands.

Open (not emotional) and honest (fact based) discussions should be just that.

For example, Skeptik claims he received this MMS (on a non-MMS handset??) but we only sent it to MMS handsets that registered for the service in the last two weeks, so he either did not receive it, or something went wrong, and if it did, I'd like to find out what, so other subscribers don't see the same problem.

Further he claims to have used a Vodacom opt-out system I'm unaware of (as are the rest of the forum) and it would really be great for all of us to know about.

So it seems he used a non-existent system to opt-out of a MMS he never received. No wonder he refuses to give info on how he got it right.

Either way, on would expect a community member actually interested in helping the community.

Please help to get mms like sms on 6110 nokia?
So they would have known I haven't used my Vodacom SIM in an MMS phone for about 2-3 months then. So why send me the MMS? I then had to phone the most likely people to find out whether this little 'surprise' was from them. So who gains from that?
Is Vodacom going to refund me? I doubt it ...

mms, if I understand your question; you would like to receive MMS messages on your Nokia 6110?

(in spite of what you read above), it's not possible, the phone can only do Voice and SMS.

You won't be able to send MMS's at all, unless you have a PC with a MMS program on it and you use the 6110 as a modem.

If someone sends you a MMS to this phone, you will receive a SMS with a link on the internet where you can view the MMS with a internet-connected PC.

MMS phones are becoming very common now, and probably your best bet is to try and get one at some stage.

Vodacom charges the same for a MMS than a SMS and you can do so much more with a MMS.

I send and receive between 20 and 40 MMS's per day as I can add much more complex content such as pictures, video clips or large amounts of text.

At some point have a look at the Vodacom Traffic and Holiday cams on 4me as an example of wht one can do with MMS.

Here you can get up to date information, with a photo, on various traffic congestion points to help plan your travelling or you can look at various beaches around the country, again with a photo and the current weather conditions.

Great for the beach-bums arond the country who's most burning question in the morning is which beach to go and surf...

Hi, I'm probably one of those beach bums you're referring to, but actually the Vodacom webcam in the Strand hasn't been of much help for checking the surf. It is pointing in the wrong direction! Maybe the idea with that cam is to check out the potential on the beach, but I've found that the nice girls usually hang out where the surf's up. Do you think someone at Vodacom could maybe give turn the cam to point in the opposite direction? That would be totally epic!

Cheers
Rob

Absolutely no problem!

I actually positioned that camera myself when we first put them up a year or 3 ago. We had to put it on that specific building, so won't be able to move it to another building, but maybe we can pan it a bit.

PM me a contact number and I'll give you a shout. If we can turn it, will do so.

How are the other beach cams? I battled to find spots where we could actually install, property limitations and restrictions always applies......

And is the weather info usefull?

As far as im aware this would actually be illegal in America. They would need proof that the potential customer allowed them/gave them permission to use personal details such as their private numbers in order to advertise. The companies there may not do this and also may not share customer information with other companies.

Just an interesting thought :) would be nice if this were the case here in SA

Is there a way to tell whether the phone I'm sending the MMS to actually can receive the thing. Otherwise you are taking a chance that the recipient will just see that very daft '7654' or whatever error message then you have to use more credit sending a more reliable and easier for the Vodacom network to handle - SMS.

Why do you ask? - do you have some MMS spam good to go? :p :D

I presume that MMSes are primarily sent to people that one knows [personally], consequently one would soon get wind from friends &| family &| acquaintences &| colleagues that don't have MMS-capable handsets...something like: 'Skeptik stop sending me these crap messages that I cannot do anything with...'

Vodacom3g is too scared to send me his number in case I send him some spam :D What's good for the goose eh?

I don't think an MMS is a subsitute for an SMS. It takes longer, is unreliable and there is no way to know if the recipient can see it. The MMSs I've been getting say "7349 Message cannot be displayed here". No other details. A family member said she thought it was an error on her phone and began to panic. Vodacom have not thought this exercise through.

As a small test, sent some test messages (Virgin to Vodacom). One simple picture, one text only MMS. Lastly, a simple SMS.

The SMS was receieved almost instantly. The MMS picture sat in the outbox for more than a minute. The MMS text appeared to go quickly.

15 minutes later, neither MMS has been receieved. I'm going to see exactly how long it takes and what transpires.

skeptik, what is it that you keep on attacking V3G?

The statement above is typical of the ones you make. You make a statement as if it actually happened. Casual readers are then left with the impression it is a true reflection of eents.

I just read through this entire thread and can see where V3G asked you numerous time for information, but you refuse to give it.

But then you come back and state that it's YOU who is asking V3G for his number and he refuses to give it. I can't see anywhere where you asked for it?

Why do you do this? It took a long time to get official representation here and you seem to make it your mission to chase them away? Or at least the Vodacom rep.

Why are you trying to undo the good work rpm is doing?

As a forum member, I find your actions demeaning to what the myADSL community stand for.

Do you really derive pleasure from this?

I am going to hold Skeptik to his word that he is ignoring v3g's posts and thereby putting an end to the baiting & trolling described above.

Ive read this whole thread and I dont understand why people always need to be complaining about something.....so you got an mms big deal it didnt cost you anything and I doubt it greatly affected you life so get over it and move on.....

http://www.hellopeter.com/details.asp?id=89174

I received a sms of the Festive Faces promo - send vodacom your pics, they morph it and send it back to you. On 29/11 at 10:17 I sent 2 pics, but have not received anything back - this is NOT a free service and there are costs involved. What now?

So the thing doesnt even seem to be working, or according to this guy free!

**clap clap** for the well thought out comment!

1. It did wake me up in the middle of the night.
2. If i dont take action now, whats to stop me getting another one tomorrow and the next day, and well on and on and on.

So are you saying that post was not written by neo, but by a VodaBot?:D
So I shouldn't respond then .... Oh allright then...

My thoughts exactly!

Don't let the b*ggers get you down. Stand up for your rights. They may discourage us, but there are NO rules forbidding criticism the Vodacom network on this forum, despite the bots & fanboyz.

Re: the MMS test I did. It took about 4 hours to arrive!!!!
Proof enough that sending an MMS instead of an SMS is the wrong choice.

@bboy, perhaps my general lack of interest in MMSes has caused me not to pay closer attention to this thread, and perhaps I haven't read where it's stated that this is a free service, IIRC v3g posted that receiving MMSes is free, but sending an MMS is charged for, also the banner displayed on vodacom.co.za it says that there is an R0.80/300kByte charge...

Some more info:

Yes, as stated above, you always pay for sending a MMS, same rate as a SMS. Receiving is free.

If frown on HelloPeter did not get a reply back there could be a few reasons including the MMS was not delivered or if the facial features are not clear enough, the morphing software can't do its thing, but then he should have received a reply stating this.
