Vodacom forgot my phone can do MMS

My phone also stopped receiving mmses at the beginning of the year. I tried untold number of times through vodacom4me and their "help centres" to have it fixed and was eventually told I'd need to have the firmware in my phone updated. Well, I didn't need the mms capability that much so I laughed that off.

A couple of weeks back I sent off an mms and almost immediately got a response from VC welcoming me to their mms service. Since then, I have been able to receive mmses again.

Try sending an mms, you may have the same luck I did.

I received a call from Vodacom Customer Care in response to my query on vodacom4me, some maintenance was done on the MMS website last Thursday and since then people have had trouble logging in. They hope to have it resolved by this Thursday.
mms.vodacom4me.co.za and mms1.vodacom4me.co.za still not working.

Thanks, but it turns out I am able to receive MMS from other numbers, it's only those from 27820099655 that are a problem, and it seems those are Vodacom spam, so all I want to do now is just opt out so I don't get them again.

DO NOT OPT OUT >>>> MORE WILL COME!!

This is the one I'm getting every day now. It's from Vodacom Ltd and the campaign is called Free News4U.

Yesterday evening I received another call in response to my vodacom4me query, I was told the MMS messages were indeed Vodacom advertisements and there had been a problem with that system that caused it to send the messages in the incorrect (legacy) format.

I was also told that the reason I could not view the MMS messages on the legacy website was due to advertisement messages expiring after 24 hours instead of the usual 5 days. When I told the agent I had previously been told there was a problem with the legacy website, he denied it and wanted to know the name of the agent that told me that, unfortunately I couldn't remember. He couldn't explain why I was unable to view the MMS messages on the site immediately after receiving them.

I asked how I could opt out from receiving future advertisements and the agent asked whether I'd like to be stop the news4me or the summer promotion messages, so it sounds like there is more than one opt out list.
I decided not to opt out, partly because of Sackboy's warning, and partly because I would actually like to be notified of new services and promotions, but only once, not [-]three[/-] four times in one week.

Right now the mms1.vodacom4me.co.za and mms.vodacom4me.co.za sites are both up, but if I enter any of the passwords that I received from 27820099655 I just get returned to the login page. I don't know if this is the usual behaviour if the MMS has expired, I would have at least expected an error message of sorts.

This morning at 11:22 I received the following SMS:
To view your MMS from 27820099655, please go to http://mms1.vodacom4me.co.za/do/legacy/view and enter 2782*******
PASSWORD: ******
Shortly after this I asked Morkhans to send me an SMS, which was delivered directly to my phone.

The good news is mms1.vodacom4me.co.za is up and working and I was able to view my spam.
The page notes:
Your MMS will be kept for 7 days, after which it will be deleted.
For a laugh, I used my free MMS reply to send the word 'STOP'.

mms.vodacom4me.co.za still returns me to the login page though.

Has this also now changed to "OUT" - as in the Vodacom23 promo?

Yesterday afternoon I received the following SMS from 27820097621:

I noticed my query on vodacom4me is now closed, hopefully that's the end of it now.

Shortly after opening yet another query on vodacom4me I received the following MMS:

Straight after that I received the actual News4U spam MMS:

And then another one yesterday:

Subject:
Free News4U
Date:

So the problem on Vodacom's side seems to have been resolved. Now, how do I go about opting out?

on which number ?
I have many and I would PM you a list, but isn't there a procedure I can follow?

I am confused that there seem to be different procedures for opting out from VODACOM23 and News4U and also whether to send 'OUT' or 'STOP'.

I have the option to do the N4U but V23 opt was fixed and now honouring opt outs.

That SMS is to cancel your subscription, but I assume you didn't actually subscribe. Vodacom are still displaying an unbelievable ineptitude.

my phone has lost mms and internet capabilities too - just giving up on those services now.
