Vodacom HSDPA 7.2 speed questioned

Never mind the fact, that the 7.2Mbps speed on HSDPA is actually for the entire sector at the basestation driven by a radio.

The moment two people connect to a basestation, voila, 3.6Mbps for each.
Add more people and divide again for every person getting online....

Faster than ADSL? Hardly.
 
As soon as I get an alternative internet connection to HSDPA, I am gone, as Vodacom has not come to the party with price drops.
 
I believe Vodacom deliberately used 7.2 in the context that the consumer would read it as a speed statement. Why we can't even achieve speeds close to 50% of "up 3.6 standard package" at the moment and it seems to be getting worst with network congestion.
What is going to happen in 2010 during the World Cup?

dunno about whats gonna happen 2010, but at the moment my 3G is as pathetic as GPRS speeds! Multiple Disconnects!

It Sucks to be a Vodacom 3G User....
 
Presumably this ruling should make Vodacom happy since they 'never promised anyone 7.2 mb/s. Now the record has been set straight: What great relief for Vodacom!
 
What's the use of these socalled ASA "rulings" ? Vodacom may not use the add anymore - just like yelling at your dog for p*ssing on the lawn: it has no effect.

What about the cost to consumers who laid out money based on a deliberately vague and misleading advertsing claim?

+1. Except they charged plenty people at 7.2 prices, at least on an expectation that there's 7.2 speeds. i wont pay for it on the basis that ive never received the 3.6 that im currently paying for. maybe if they start giving me close to the 3.6, i might believe they know what 7.2 looks like
 
:erm:atleast i can download my emails @ an average of 1.2mbps.its better than other sp's i know.

Well as far as consumer protection is concerned, we only have the ASA. ICASA has been proven time and again not to be on our side. The rest ... pffft.:mad:

The rulings are enforced and Vodacom will not ignore them. If they do, then all their ads will have to be scrutinized by the ASA before release. That's not a position they want to be in. They will go ahead and make some other untrue/misleading/divisive claims, that's a given.
 
I heard they busy with the 14.4Mbps, I wonder if it will workout especially since the 7.2Mbps is still a dream....not becoming true
 
Lets put it this way. Yes I'm not getting close to the 3.6 promised on hsdpa, but I am still getting a helluva lot more than 356kbps on adsl. I use on average about 1GB a month (due to cost not choice) and since I can get 3G bandwidth for at least R100 less than a GB of ADSL it makes sod all sense to go the ADSL route for low useage.

3G = R389 for 2GB that I use over 2 moneths = R194.50 per GB per month
ADSL = R110 odd for line rental + R199 for ADSL and 1GB = R309 per GB per month

Getting close to 1.5-2 Mbits speed wise so yeah adsl can suck my left big toe for now.
 
Its a good thing they have been told not to use the advertising, its misleading to the consumer. I just wish the ruling could be used in action against Vodacom - forcing them to "make right" with people that have been mislead.
