Vodacom increases Multi Data SIMs price by 1000%

...mumble mumble unsustainable mumble grumble...

Did they brainstorm* after the MTN blackouts? "Hey, how can we screw our customers over now? We can't disconnect them..."

*storm / fart / same thing...

Companies I have learned to expect this sort of thing from

Vodacon
Mweb
DSTV

Good Lord for a SIM card that is worth like 90 cents prepaid? This is because they didn't get their way with ICASA I think. Absolute nonsense.

Did a quick search so don't call this fact but when buying in bulk (think 100000+) cost is US0.01. For the sake of a weak rand, let's make that 12 cents.

bastards but looking at it I think I understand what they are getting at

EXCEPT that there is a bloody OOBShark that they don't give you the master tool to deal with.

What's the business behind this?
What do the other providers charge?

Not sure if other providers have the facility. Remember, you're not paying for the SIM, you're paying for the 'privilege' to use the data across multiple devices.

Vodacom is basically concerned that if you have multiple devices logged on you will actually be able to use all of your data - instead of just say 50%.

I predict that it won't be long until we're being charged extra for hotspot features on Smartphones - because this essentially have the same 'problem' for Vodacom.

Glad I moved my last number to CellC last month (I had 3 data sims).

What I really like about Cell C, I had a dual sim activated, a once off fee of like R30 and that's it, no monthly fees

Q: Why am I not surprised?
A: Scameelperd business logic.

Highly doubt it.

We buy sims in lots of 500 and they cost about R70-R100 each depending on Exchange rate etc.

Very much doubt that even in bulk numbers like that the price will be a 1000 times less.

these idiots!! quick question, why charge about R65 for a contract sim swap but nothing for a prepaid one?

Why do you guys always get the % increase wrong?

Two fold increase is 100%
11 fold increase is 1000%.

Correct. An 11 fold increase is an increase by 1000%, but also could be stated as an increase to 1100%.

How the OP was written though, it should have used the increased by amount, not the increased to amount.
