Vodacom increases Multi Data SIMs price by 1000%

I know TM charge R9 pm per additional SIM.

But people will continue to pay exorbitant fees to Vodacom in hordes, with no cooking clue what the same service costs at any of the other providers, and they know it.

Very much doubt that even in bulk numbers like that the price will be a 1000 times less.

Where are you buying them from? The search I did listed factories in China.

It's just about the only company in the world that does this kind of thing and I'm pretty sure like most companies they probably use chinese labour to make it happen.

Then again it's not beyond the chinese to clone SIMs as well I guess.


But as was asked earlier, there's a good reason they charge you for a SIM Swop and that pricing is well in line with the 7 euro it costs when buying lots of 500.

I can't imagine your price would be less than 5 euro even if you bought a 100 000.


What you saw might be a different smart chip for a different application.

If the competition charges less why increase it?
If you buy a 1GB contract at R69 per month, a multi sim will cost R99 extra?
Stupid move.
 
Those discussing the actual sim card, completely misunderstood the topic...

It's a very South African thing actually and I guess when one of them started it the rest had to follow the trend.

In other countries you generally pay $5 or so for a Prepaid SIM card.
 
Vodacom are sharks... my FIL wanted to upgrade his VC contract recently, the VC shop gave him a quote of R600, this included a new micro sim, and... wait for it.... R100 to destroy the old sim... by cutting it in half! Well of course he told them to get lost and went to Game, where the same process cost R150... including cutting the old sim in half!

Same with mtn, i think i paid R150? for asim when upgrading on a contract because new one had a nano sim.. wtf. Then the new sim didnt work for almost 2 weeks during which i cut my old sim down the the right size and wondered why the hell i paid for a new nano sim lmfao

Your reason for staying? Besides insanity...

Thing for me is where I stay, the 8ta signal is -103 to 107dB on a good day, making for broken calls. Cell C is -109 to 113, which is unusable. Vodacom is the same. Which leaves MTN, with a signal of -95 to 101, at least usable. If it wasn't for this problem, I'd leave MTN in a heartbeat.

This scam by Vodacom though: I'd consider erecting an antenna just to be able to use someone else if I was screwed like that by MTN (though they aren't much better).
 
6 minutes and 10 seconds ... of which approximately 5 minutes was spent going through all the options, punching in the number a couple of times before I got through to the operator to convert a number to prepaid (to be ported) and the other to be cancelled.

So here's the thing; 5 minutes waiting to get an operator? Why? Of course, it is a revenue generating exercise and made as painful as possible to cancel.

However, when it comes to upgrading, the operator railroads you into taking their ideal "package" specially for you the customer.

It'll be a blizzard in hell before I do business again with Vodacom. My personal experiences with Vodacom have generally been awful and littered with poor service and complete and utter lack of transparency. It is a pity that it comes to this.

R99 per month per extra sim to use one data contract, where it used to be R9 per month.
Vodacom, do you guys actually consider the pricing before it is approved?

I have a data contract with 2 sim cards, and I can tell you right now that at that price I won't be asking for additional sims, or making changes at that price.

Have you guys been talking to Sanral on how to rip off customers?
Oh, wait... you were around a long time before eTolls, maybe they took lessons from you......
