I have just received spam email on my domain sent via the Vodamail SMTP server. As usual, I report the abuse to the offender's hosting co, my hosting co and to the ISP hosting the SMTP server. On previous occasions I had great co-operation from all parties involved but this time I ran into a blank wall at Vodacom. I phoned the helpdesk but they are not aware of any policy aiding the reporting of abuse.

Please vodacom3g, you seem to be more real and well-connected than the help-desk, do you know where I can report this issue? Since Vodacom is now a fully-fledged ISP they should wake up and provide the same service structures as other ISP's.

You probably found an uninformed operator.....

Best bet is to log it to the helpdesk via e-mail. Easier for you to then trace it as well.

PM me the whole story with all your contact details, if you don't mind. I'll pass it on.

I agree Vodacom is an ISP, but with 18 million voice users and a few 100 000 mail users, the training focus still tend to be on the voice side. Not an excuse, but reality, so you'll find the occasional blank response on your data queries.

Quite true and understandable. The operator tried his best to explain to me how to protect my @vodamail.co.za email address but then soon grasped that I was talking about the flip-side of the coin. In any case, I allways had pleasant dealings with the helpdesk on regular issues. Thanks for your assistance vodacom3g!

Now, how do we clone vodacom3g, put a Telkom jacket on him and station him at the ADSL forum? :D

Papa? Maybe we can get a REAL answer from you?

I want abuse monitoring for damned SMSs - especially the very annoying Please Call Me.
Vodacom - kindly prevent any pleasecallme's to my number. tx.

Just enter *140# and select the option to Block Call-Me's to your number. This should stop it...

Vodacom still does not have a working abuse contact. At the very least a redirect could be setup that sends abuse@ to the helpdesk.

Additionally the whois records at AfriNIC should be updated with an abuse contact. Most people around the world would look there to find out where to report abuse - they would have any clue about the helpdesk.

I have received 3 spams from either the vodamail servers or 3G users in the last week and its getting a little out of hand.

V3G , is Vodacom running a virtual ISP via the likes of IS (Internet Solutions) or how?

Who exactly maintains the core network on the ISP side or is this somehow shared with the current voice and data network (that allows HSDPA / HSUPA) and what not.

Where exactly is this datacentre managed from (TechnoCentre , Pier Place , Midrand) ?

I know MTN's ISP offering /s run from MTN Network Solutions which was formerly CITEC , so who / what is Vodacom's story?

A bit of an open-ended question...;)

Maybe if you ask specifics, I can try and answer?

Who runs the core network on the ISP side , Vodacom ISP itself with its own employees and / or is this outsourced to Didata or IS or the other Tier 1 providers ?

Is there a website for Vodacom ISP ?

From where is the ISP segment of this network managed ?

Sorry for not being too specific unless you want me to pm/email you rather.

It's all internal with service management from Midrand but Network Management in Cape Town

Maybe PM me if you want me to call you. Sounds like it might avoid a lot of typing....

This thread is heading OT....

v3g - you have spammers on the network... having a field day in fact. I found a line in the headers that said "vodacom sucks". This doesn't look like some innocent person with a virus. This is malicious criminals who are abusing the network.

Can we please have an abuse contact - with some brains behind it before the network becomes a den of thieves.

still the same?

Hey guys

Just to bump this thread again.. still the same situation??? Or is there now an abuse policy?

Vodacom do now have a team specifically handling mails to abuse@. Unfortunately there is still a high level of abuse on the network but they do respond to mails when you try tell them about it.
