Vodacom LiveTrack launched

If its not strapped on like in Disturbia. Then how does it help when the kid leaves it at the school or in somebody else's backpack? Does not seem to convince me. Kid will perhaps use his/her normal cellphone to do every day tasks anyway. Sounds like a DUH to me. :D

I think it's a great step forward, sure the "kid" application is there. But what about students, or women living alone?

For people who want to be safe, not to spy on your kids.

I think it's great, and I actually want to play around with it. Also, R39 a month isn't too bad either! (R99 with the device might be a bit steep)

The systems available for smartphones such as Nokia mean that you don't really need an independent tracker with a monthly fee to go with it. I can track my phone anytime without a subscription.

What software/application do you use to do that?

They are really ripping you off with the device costs. >R2k for a basic GSM transmitter (cheap and old tech) and a gps which is now also cheap.

its needs to be an implant, and parents can get it implanted in their kids for permanent live-tracking, monitoring of the pulse for distress detection etc.

Its the only way. hopefuly techonology opens it soon.

Hello? Why not use Google Latitude which is free and works on all networks?

indeed, Google latitude (a Google mobile app) does the exact same thing for free. The operators won't be able much longer to charge for this service.

In fact, google announced a full on GPS navigation functionality for mobile phones yesterday

now look at the share price of TomTom and Garmin today :)

hrm.. is there a way to, besides with cellphones, track to google app? like a dedicated device. Was chatting to my friend the other night, one could easily put a killswitch/metabolizer + rf id reader such that when the owner leaves the vehicle the car dies after +/-5 min. Combo this with tracking and its pretty sweet :D

But you need a cheapish device and components separately to build up cost a lot.
