Vodacom has to be the worst network I have ever... Even 8ta is doing a better job. Yes, I know they piggy back off MTN, but for all you vodacom people who laugh at 8ta... Today we laugh at you. While you are getting frustrated and unable to get your work done, we are cruising along with cheaper call charges and better service. Even when Vodacom's network is running their after sales service sucks in every way imaginable. I am so happy I am no longer a Voda-victim

@Jannie, whats seems to be the problem?

Better get worried then! :)

Was out of the office, so only had mobile (non)data.

Not sure yet what the problem is, but from my TELKOM landline (in cpt) I can't phone certain Vodacom, MTN or TELKOM numbers, so it looks like something common to all these networks, most likely a big transmission failure.
Jannie I was about to say you only respond to Cellc threads;) Haha I personally haven't been affected but it doesn't seem to be area based as someone in the same offices phone wasn't working!

Twitter also down ...
Hasn't flinched for me all day!

Sure. I haven't been able to make a Vodacom to Vodacom call since about 10 this morning, and there have been several other funnies as well. No-one can call me either. I can't send SMSes.

There's more than the voice network affected too : vodamail.co.za seems to be compromised - I just got a bounce from it telling me that a well-established account "Doesn't Exist".

I've really had it with this SP after 16-year contract : their service sucks, their coverage sucks, and their pricing and overbilling sucks.

I may port to MTN, but is it any better on the other side? I don't think so.

UPDATE! I just also pulled my battery and I got back online! #Confusion.com

Ahh the whole day and no cell reception or anything. WTF!!! vodacom is supposed to outsmart the rest. Now I have reception but still cant make calls. ffs.!!!!!

Some more info on the outage:

http://www.businessday.co.za/articles/Content.aspx?id=147320

"Vodacom has reported a major outage caused by a faulty switching system in Durban which has locked off parts of the network".

Wow, I seem to be online now eventually! (nearly 5 hours downtime). Hopefully it will stay up!
Can't really say that I've experienced outages of this nature on MTN after 12 years with them. If something does go wrong, then it's usually localised to specific areas. The fact that this has happened more than once with Vodacom is scary.

It's not area related. Seems to affect only older contracts?

I've got a feeling this is part of them selling out a perfectly good South African company to UK. Enough is never enough is it, mr CEO?

My prepaid also does not work - new SIM if only a few weeks.

The service has been shoddy for me from 11am. Hvnt been able to call or sms my wife or anyone since that time. First started with being disconnected from vodacom.

Now signal is good, no calls or sms. Oddly enuf, Blackberry service is ok

Just restarted my phone and it seems to be working fine now atleast, but it being end of the month this is surely the biggest inconvenience Vodacom has caused.
