What node dropped Jannie? Where was the redundancy? Must have been Core side. Hope you guys sort it out soon.

...else call in the professionals :p

There's massive redundancy in the network and we often have failures, especially transmission, that gets handled by the redundancy. But sometimes you have a situation where more than one failure happens close enough in time to completely take out a service.

'Numerous Vodacom subscribers reported this morning that just after midday they began experiencing problems making calls and using SMS services.'
@rpm: Could ypu please ask one of those subscribers to 'report' tomorrow night's Lotto numbers please? PM me with them, I'll share!

I do not understand the technical stuff, but something is really funny. My wife's Nokia E72 has got no signal at all, but my BB 9780 is working like a charm and we are under one roof. Both are on the Vodacom network. Does this make sense? Not to me....

Same for me except my wife has connectivity and me not.

What about location redundancy? especially for what is clearly a massively critical node?

However I understand the scentiments, no one would ever expect multiple link failures, especially to the same node. I am sure your guys will have it up soon.

Unfortunately it's not so easy to build a network without critical nodes forming naturally. These often develop around Telkom infrastructure. New Doornfontein, Barrack Street, etc. then become critical nodes that can affect multiple operators.

BTW, the failure about 2 weeks ago (the fibre break) was also the 2nd of two quick-succession failures and in cases like this where you get a double whammy you're pretty much up the creek without the proverbial.

Then, to add insult to injury, when the original failure restores, the network just don't always recover directly as you've got massive queues and backlogs that can overload and bring services down again. So it takes a while to fully recover.

Try CellC... I moved from CellC to Vodacom due to bad service. I've never really had any bog issues that effect me from Vodacom so this isn't a biggy.

Networks fail...facts of life...things break. At least they said they are aware of it and working to find a resolution.

Same thing I experienced. Vodacom hasn't given me any trouble so far. I'll maybe move back to cellc seeing that my issues with cellc was a few years ago..... :p

All the cellular operators should solve their stupid networking issues first and then worry about upgrading speeds and stuff like that. This happend because no one cared about "the Consumer" that is suppose to be all happy go lucky in their eyes. I think at the moment the only people that do care about the consumer is "No One". Shout me down if you guys think I'm wrong but this is bs that something like this should ever happen
