unconfirmed yet...but wet coal could have been the cause. Power failure at one of the major switches seems to have been the problem. VIVA la eskom

It's actually incoming and outgoing call. Sometimes when I call I get the message Network Error. I have Nokia N70, and its only been happening since The begining of the week. Im in the Durban area though and other people in the area also cant call sometimes.

I live in the Boksburg area and had a problem with delayed voicemail notifications.
I also found their data service sloooow today, with problems connection to their ISP site.

Vodacom has confirmed that they were experiencing sporadic problems for around an hour on Tuesday afternoon, but the network is up and running again and they are not aware of any further issues.

My SIM has been offline since around 15:00. I called the vodacom service centre at about 20:45, and after going through the list of questions (e.g. have you rebooted your phone, do you know any other vodacom subscribers with the same problem in the area, what happens when you call, blah blah), I enquired whether the issue might be related to the problems that vodacom had this afternoon. Only then, did the consultant admit that the problem had only been partially resolved, and that they were still experiencing issues!

What happened to all the honest companies?

I'm glad Vodacom actually aren't running and hiding from this. :)

What about MTN why has this problem been mentioned with MTN. MTN had a similar problems over the last couple of months and I think there were even thread created about it here somewhere. Why hasn't that been addressed

SU had outage of about 4 1/2 hours.. dont know where they get 1 hour from

Based on what we forumites have previously observed, after Vodacom fixes the actual cause of an HLR problem, there is normally a huge backlog of registrations wanting to be processed all at the same time, and some people tend not to switch their phones off and then on again to force an HLR update.

I don't think this was limited to SA. I am in Brazil, and my roaming enabled phone was dead for a few hours today. Colleagues on MTN had no problem.
