Vodacom network problems

LMAO

They now blame Eskom ? ROFLMAO

The BTS's has a 48 hour battery back up. How could load shedding cause a country wide network problem ?

If the Dog dies, blame Eskom also :D

Pitbull, firstly why would I lie to you when I said load-shedding broke some stuff? Unlike the other networks, when something breaks, we actually come to this forum and give an explanation. If it's a Vodacom fault, we say so. Don't see the other networks do this.

Guess, they're a bit too 'yellow' to admit to faults on their networks. ;)

Secondly, where did I (or anyone else, for that matter) say it was a BTS or even that it was Vodacom equipment?

Next time I'm up in Jozi, I'll buy you a beer and draw you a GSM network diagram. It's slightly more complex than what you probably think with more than just BTS/BSC's ;)

v3g, was it an HLR box that was affected? - I'm assuming [perhaps incorrectly] that it was based on the symptoms described by not personally experienced.

ok you mean like BTS - MSC - GMSC and so forth ?

No need to draw pictures ;) Anyway, I wasn't having a run at Vodacom. Just the excuse that Eskom is to blame. This is the next blame it on Eskom mission everyone is jumping on. No need to get worked up on it. Just as a foot note, MTN would have been affected by the same Load shedding and power cuts, strange that MTN in those areas are working fine.

No need to discuss the further I just added my 2c

HLR = Home Log Register.
If that went the
VLR = Visitors Log Register. Would have gone too meaning no interconnectivity via the "switch"

But then again I am assumed to know nothing as there is pictures that needs to be draw up for me. :D

Vodacom has several HLR boxes each responsible for a specific but separate set of MSISDNs etc, usually one of the boxes is affected as opposed to all HLR boxes as you seem to suggest with the VLR & interconnectivity switching references.

Just as a matter of interest ic, these HLR boxes ? Are they boxes we can physically see on the road? Not those Green and Blue boxes surely? Or something that is hidden away at some sort of exchange rather?
Pardon my dofness.....:D

I seriously doubt that Vodacom would leave any equipment laying about unprotected on the side of any road, but as far as HLR boxes go, my understanding is that they are located at NOCs [Network Operation Centres].

As usual you've read the symptoms correctly. Or nearly correctly. :)

In this case the power problems took down the transmission to one of the HLR's, effectivly isolating it.

Understood - IIRC the previous HLR box problems were also due to being cut off communications-wise and not so much the HLR boxes being broken as such.

Thank you :)
