I recently ported to Vodacom. Whenever I try to switch my phone(iPhone 3G) to hide my number(prank calling my buddies), all calls I make fail immediately. I even tried using #31# with "hidden number" off and it still fails, which indicates to me that I can't make calls with a hidden number.

I went into Vodacom4me and switched the CLIR service on. Then my number shows "blocked" on the recipients phone, but I can't switch it back to normal on the phone, I have to go back to Vodacom4me. Even worse every time I switch the CLIR service on in Vodacom4me, my CLIP gets deactivated, and I can't see who is calling. This is extremely annoying.

Can anyone tell me how to get Vodacom to allow to have both CLIP and the option to show or hide my number as I please, like I did with my old network?

This private number carp should be banned. So many legitimate businesses/institutions use it now that one can't safely ignore such calls anymore.

Much lower priority for screened calls. If I'm half busy, I'll kill it/let it go to voicemail.

Telemarketers have backed me into a corner.

If I do answer, I'm abrubt, very stand offish until I know who I'm talking to. Never identify myself until they do etc. The number of times I get "Hi, is this xxx?" Now that I think about it, next time that happens, I'll just hang up. What good can possibly come of such calls?
