Vodacom One Number and Apple Watch - Multiple Issues

My Watch has also just been connected. iPhone 16 Pro and Series 10. Vodacom.

ISSUE RESOLVED
I received the following SMS on Friday, 8 Nov from Vodacom.

"Message from Vodacom
Dear customer, kindly note that the issue impacting the activation of One number for the Apple watch has been resolved. You should now be able to proceed with the activation from the phone. If you have already activated the service and the Watch app indicates "waiting", please restart the phone and watch to trigger the download to the watch.

I was quite excited to try this out and activate my Apple Watch Ultra 2. However, I did notice an error or two. I am sharing the tips and steps I took to resolve it.

  1. Restart your iPhone and Apple Watch.
  2. If you are already using an e-sim on your iPhone for data (secondary sim), ensure you switch this off and only leave the main sim active (this is if you are using your main sim to link the One Number Service).
  3. Make sure your wifi is turned off and you are connected to the network using your main sim.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen to activate the One Sim.
  5. Following activation, the Vodacom device (logo) kept spinning, and I received no confirmation.
  6. A few minutes later, I received a confirmation SMS, but the screen still showed no progress.
  7. I restarted my iPhone and watch, and the mobile service was active on my watch.
The steps above worked for me, and my watch is now connected. Let me know if this worked for you and if you could connect your mobile service to your watch.

It took Vodacom a couple of months to get this resolved and I am happy that it was finally resolved, at least from my perspective.

Watch and phone all sorted, finally, however, now iMessage won’t activate.

Had no issues with my Ultra 2 cellular connection on Vodacom for almost a year and suddenly when everyone else who were having issues got sorted my watch started saying no sim. Tried resetting everything and reactivating one number and now stuck on "waiting" 😢

Is it possible to enable network connectivity for your apple watch with a US (simless) iPhone? I assume Voda and OneNumber only works with a physical SIM in the phone

So, I had Onenumber up and running on my watch since Jan / Feb. I haven't made any hardware changes or software updates in the past week, but this morning while out running, I realise the e-sim on my AW is just suddenly gone. On the watch app on my phone it reflects as inactive. Anyone else have similar issues?

I have to hand it to these "service providers" for making it damn near impossible to get any kind of proper support. You phone the customer care line, which gives you pre-set selections to choose from, choosing the most obvious option gives you an automated message which sends an sms to you to use the chat bot, where sometimes you can chat to a live agent, but they then direct you to the customer care line again. Or they tell you to go to a Vodashop... having done this in Feb / Mar... I already know the souls at the Vodashop can't assist.

So…… I cancelled my Vodacom contract . After phoning customer support apparently to often they blocked me from speaking to them. 20 years at Vodacom and they did that…. I ported to MTN and 8 hours after port my I watch ultra worked with no problem.

I managed to get it fixed quite quickly yesterday. Vodacom's support was quick to aid. Initially the support agent tried resetting the eSIM (which failed). He called me back and I asked if he could cancel OneNumber. After cancellation I could sign up for OneNumber again via the Watch app. It worked and I'm very happy now.

Hope this encourages someone

I want to second this suggestion. I followed this approach today. And it was the fastest path to success. don’t tell Vodacom anything more than, “please deactivate onenumber”, then once you get the sms confirming deactivation you are good to go.
