Hi Guys.

Our estate is looking at Vodacom FTTH and they say it is open access. Can anyone tell me which other providers can provide services over Vodacom FTTH presently?

They are telling us we can choose the ISP, which i don't think is the truth as things stand:-(

Anyone in the country using Vodacom FTTH with a different ISP?

Regards

A colleague of mine is currently trying to engage with Vodacom to run services over their fibre to one of his customers in an estate. So far no luck. I'll let you know if he comes right.

So there is currently ZERO other ISP's who can provide services over Vodacom FTTH ?

Do Vodacom actually have even one agreement with another ISP? I doubt it :-(

Dude, literally ALL the ISP's provide bandwidth, Web Africa, MWEB etc. Go check their pages for Fibre-to-Home prices.

Open Access means just that, you're able to choose your own ISP even though the actual fibre is handled by Vodacom. Which means you pay Vodacom "line rental" (as you would for ADSL to Telkom) and choose your ISP (as you would when you have ADSL)

There's even been a few articles on MyBB listing which ISP's offer bandwidth for Open access fibre

Not quite true... maybe in future but not right now. See Nixul's post before mine. You can only use ISPs who have a wholesale agreement with VC.

Vodacom ftth only recently launched, think it was in September. So it still a bit new. I suspect more info etc will be available in the new year. from what I have heard its been delayed at most of the places it was going to rollout.

Also they are still trialling the uncapped packages in Mount Edgecombe, from what I have seen is that pricing looks good for uncapped. It was posted before in another thread.

Thank you exactly my point! So who are these mysterious ISP's Vodacom has agreements with, because I have been told that the estate can use any ISP with Vodacom, which i feel is a lie.

Not true! Show me an ISP who provides services over Vodacom besides Vodacom themselves :)

There's 3 links in my post. I suggest you follow them and find out yourself? I already showed you. At the very least MWEB already has agreements in place with VC. But open access means OPEN access. So you're not getting lied to, you just can't wrap your head around which ISP might be able to provide you with such a service.

If all else fails, just buy bandwidth from Vodacom then?

Here's the debate: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/fibre...home-in-south-africa-what-is-open-access.html

I have contacted the following ISP's

RSAweb is building their own fibre network, so no agreement with vodacom.

Web Africa, nope, but maybe later can't confirm.

Mweb, still waiting for a response, will update later.

Anyone keen to contact a few other ISP's and let use know if you

Just be aware that while Vodacom advertises their residential estate type fibre installations as Open Access, on signup the resident will need to commit to a 24 month contract with Vodacom. Presumably the open access part will occur after the 24 month contract period has expired.

So please enlighten me to which ISP's provide services of Vodacom FTTH is it is so OPEN as you state!

Exactly! So they advertise as open access but are there actually any other isp's?

I cant tell from the other websites, but Web Africa only has Telkom, Vumatel and Fibrehoods on their list. Simply stating open access does not mean other ISPs are actually connected to them. They have to have an agreement, and actual physical infrastructure connecting them.

I would love to know this as well. Currently Vodacom is the only FTTH provider in my complex. Their data bundle prices are quite ridiculous, and I would only consider getting fibre from Vodacom if I could use another ISP.

I have seen vague mentions of 'open access' from Vodacom, but nothing in their terms and conditions.

Their sales agents also dont seem to know anything about open access, and promise to get back to me but never do.

Yup, the bundled data is part of the 24 month contract, but my thinking was to go for the 20mb option, and then bolt on an affordable data package from Telkom with a 'night surfer' option, that will allow me to download a good chunk every month.

But you can't because Telkom does not have an agreement with Vodacom, so my question still stands, which ISP's do Vodacom have agreements with?

That would make sense seeing that there is no installation cost for the user, only the R900 if you missed the initial signup period.

Hoping they at least release the uncapped package to everyone before they install at our Estate, wont mind paying between R800-1000 for 20mbps uncapped. thats what I'm paying now for 10mbps uncapped.

So judging by the lack of reply's I take it that if our estate has Vodacom FTTH we are stuck with Vodacom as a ISP? Do Vodacom actually have any agreements with any other ISP's at the moment? Im not keen to get stuck with a single ISP
