Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Where did this happen? Please pass me the details of where Vodacom cancelled someone's contract because they complained.
.

Apologies I did not mean Vodacom. But I am sitting in that boat & my service to VC has been stopped. I am still  just because I started complaining about the service from my SP & stopped a debit order (a very large one), they cancelled our contract. They mentioned both points in an email to us.

Well, it's Sunday. Almost a week since I posted my initial complaint and I am happy to report that things are finally running well again. This after not making any changes. As I stated previously, it must have been an issue on Vodacom's side. REALLY wish they'd just inform their customers, or have some sort of Website where we can see what maintenance is currently underway.

Here's the result:
C:\> ping smtp.vodacom.co.za

As for CSnoopy's comment, dude we're at the mercy of these big organizations. I'm betting I'll be complaining again within a week. We pay for a service, when we're unable to use it they don't consider that at the end of the month when our remaining bundle is reset we were unable to use it anyway.

Then if we stop paying, they just stop the so-called "service".

Wow what did you do to get that kind of latency. I average 350ms. That is great.

All I/we are asking for is service, just keep us informed as 3Gsux says. Dont just disappear for weeks/months on end and dont say nothing. If we do that we get nailed.

Last night my connection was BAD. Had disconnects every few minutes and was d/l at a top speed of 2Kb/s. Was so frustrating that I switched of my PC.

This morning it is much better and would hopefully stay that way.

- Your area (Pta - Mooikloof, for example)
- Your type of modem (Huawei E220, etc.)
- The modem's EMEI - (35182701019544, for example)
- The modem's firmware revision.
- apn you're on.
Bloemfontein - Langenhoven Park (LHP Spar 1 is the tower I use)
Sony Ericsson K750i
Dont know the EMEI/Firmware
Unsure which APN, the "Vodacom" profile is locked so I can't check.
I'm using GPRS via Data cable, bluetooth or just via apps on my phone.

The internet worked fine while I was on vacation @ Amanzimtoti. It was quite useless here at home before I went on holiday. Once I've returned it was useless once again. It connects sometimes. Only sometimes I have the ability to receive more than 300bytes of data.

Should I call 155 before requesting assistance here?

Yes and also send an email to [email protected] so you can get a ref. to follow up.

How about pinging some other local server www.telkomsa.net ?

How are you currently connecting to the Internet?

How are you currently connecting to the Internet?

ADSL - I'm at home at the moment. I disabled my network connection before running the tests when connected via my phone. Ping replies work fine with my ADSL connection. I can't even use internet applications on my phone e.g. Mxit, Gmail app, Opera Mini. Connection gets established but it can't accomplish anything.

The connection was nearly useless 2 weeks ago here at my house. Worked fine a week ago at amanzimtoti and now it's totally useless again here at my house.

Just tested my MTN sim and everything works when using the MTN data settings.
The signal strength is at max for both sims.

*edit* My cellphone used a different cellphone tower (Universitas Rif 3) when I turned it on at the other side of the house and the GPRS worked fine so I guess that isolates the problem to the tower?

Well it is definitely a Vodacom problem. When you call/email Vodacom you should also give them a contact number, Location and data sim cell number so they can contact you back. If you did not do so you beter do it now otherwise you are going to wait another couple of hours and then they will request this information.
Do you know which tower you are on?
Can you send sms via your data modem's software?
what Dashboard software are you using? & version number?

I'm not using a data card - Sony Ericsson K750i cellphone. I did give them all of the above mentioned details so hopefully they'll contact me soon.

Good question. Did you actually report the problem?

As @ic has said by all means post your problems here but also do the following then continue to post/complain here.

Have you called 155/082155?
Did you email [email protected] (Get ref. number)?

If they dont know thay cant do anything about it. So you need to hassle them all the time. Give feedback here GOOD & BAD. :p

Sorry I missed your previous post. That is the advantage of portability you can move around and pick up other towers. So after +- 2weeks the problem has been localized to a particular Tower (Bloemfontein - Langenhoven Park (LHP Spar 1 is the tower I use)
Well done.

Tower Selection

Is there a way to do a manual Tower selection with the E220 Modem or even from a Cell phone? This would help to isolate Tower problems & even to select a Tower which gives better performance. I hope this sound right. :)

I think Netmonitor allowed you to do that from certain phones, don't think there's a way to do it on the E220 though.

3g Langebaan

My 3G in Langebaan is still stuffing me around.
Since this morning it disconnected 5 times already and at the moment it has been on GPRS for the past 20 minutes.

Will somebody ever fix this or is this the frustrating life we will have to settle with for the rest of the contract period?:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
