Vodacom promises great HSDPA experience

The good news for users who purchased their current 3G cards after 1 February 2006 is that Vodacom will replace these cards with the new HSDPA cards at no extra cost.

i dont think that is actually what they meant, i think what they mean is for example a 1gig on 3g now cost say 599, this may come down say to 250, then irrelavant of what you use to get to 1 gig, then they maby put like 3 gb or 5 gb at 599. also irrelavant of what speed you use it at. but thats what i think, and i know nothing :)

I think Vodacom3G should comment on this.

Vodacom has indicated that there will most likely be a distinction (on speed) between services, but I agree with IC that it can create a headache since Vodacom’s current pricing model is based on data usage. An intricate billing system will make the different pricing structures possible, and if it takes effect it will be interesting to look at the percentage of users opting for a lower speed to save money.

Price is a big consideration to most users. Interesting times for Vodacom...make the distinction too large and they will waste HSDPA. Make it too small and why bother.
 
very interisting. ja so we wait and see... i reckon they may also be waiting a bit to see what telkom does with adsl pricing?
 
Coverage?? I still do not have 3G in my area, but just 4 km away there is at the East Rand Mall. Cover us!!!! (This is to all the operators)

It's still early days, so nothings concrete yet, but the current thinking was triggered by requests from the user community on different structured packages with different speed/usage profiles.

For example, nothing stops a model with a fixed speed and usage, at a specific price point. This is but one model that can work for less 'power' users.

Maybe ic can start a discussion in the Vodacom thread and see if we can get some strong product ideas that can be fed to the Vodacom product guys?

Something a bit more structured that the standard cheaper, faster comments. Let's look at the parameters that can influence a package price, speed, data cap, time-of-day, etc.

As always, Vodacom love (and need) this kind of feedback.
 
Q: Do I as an exisiting Vodacom contract customer get any preferential rates considering I already pay Voda +-R500/pm for my phone contract?
 
Well as far as Im concerned....

Vodacom cant even handle all their voice calls {1/5 calls get dropped - network fails etc.} (@ like 13.2 kbps I think) so how on EARTH are they going to provide these insane bandwidth of Mb/s. Dont see it happening smoothly over our "current" infrastructure.

And besides generally we are *useless* consumers in SA and put up with way more than we should so its gonna be interesting to see how it all pans out...

Could you elaborate on this perhaps, cause I don't see this.
