Does anyone know how I can setup the browser's for the following phones so that I can connect to a RTSP audio/video server

LG CU400/500
Motorola IZAR
Samsung SGH-ZX20

Rtsp

Does anyone know if Vodacom's network support RTSP

Excuse my ignorance, but what is RTSP an acronym for?

Real Time Streaming Protocol, used to do exactly what it says.

The Vodacom network is an IP-layer network and thus any higher-layer protocol works fine.

I often stream RTSP to my phone from a Real One server in my house, allowing me to watch all my cameras and TV! My wife especially use it to check on the kids when we're out of town.

Maybe check if you've set the network speed properly on the handset.

Hi vodacom3g,

Please could you provide me with your handset Vodacom RTSP settings, so that I can manually set up my handsets.

I use Nokia handsets with the realone player. Not much you can set. It uses the default ports.

UDP port range: 6970 to 7170.
Set the AP to the one you want to use.
No proxy.

Hi Vodacom3g,

I have not being able to do streaming yet. I am using a Nokia 6680 to connect to the following wap site http://www.zoovision.com/mobile.html. The site has a lot streaming files to play with. When I click a rtsp link RealPlayer launches and then connects to the rtsp server(Shows the length & name of the file to be played) and then RealPlayer indicates that it loading the file and after a while it disconnects without the file showing the video. Could you please try the same and see if you can stream some files on your phone.

Appreciate for the help

Thanks

Sure, will test. Actually busy with someone else with the same problem but a different server, so it might be something common.

Which apn are you using?

------------------------------------

OK, something seem flaky with the normal APN's. Think the caching engines might be swallowing you video stream.

Call 155 and get yourself provisioned on the internetvpn apn.

Once done chance the settings in both your 6680 browser and real-one to this apn.

I saw the same problem you've bot, did the above and justed watched a music video from zoovision on a 6680.

Hi Vodacom3g,

I have being calling 155 and no body seems to understand what I need from them. Could you provide me with APN settings that you used to stream from zoovision. My cell number is 0825643411, I really need to get this streaming working.

Hi Pvera,

I suggest you PM 3G your details and not post them out in the open.

:)

Hi Dacura,

How do I PM 3G, I am new to this forum. I am really desperate to get streaming working.

Click on his name and then click send private message, just edit your post to take out your phone number!

I phoned 155 and tried to impersonate you! But they tell me they're waiting for a fax from you as this is a business line number? So I could not pull it off.

Maybe call them again and get it sorted.

Yeah, went well till it became clear it's a business account and for that you need paperwork....and the request for the apn was already logged in any case....

155 is so fast nowadays, it's often easier to call them than to try and get hold of the back-office people. The trick now is to hit the right 155 agent. If I don't come right, i.e. the person does not know what I'm on about, I politely thank him/her and just dial again. Chances are the next guy does know.

[email protected] is also very handy if you can wait a few hours for the response. Handy as it's a shoot-and-forget setup, i.e. you WILL get a response so don't need to check up all the time.

I must remember to dial again in future. :) The only problem I find with 155 and most other technical call centres is they assume you're like everybody else that doesn't have a clue what they're doing, maybe we need a "Press 9 if you have a brain and know what you're doing" option. :D

Or a button on their side that state "Don't answer this incoming call if you don't have a brain"!

But also think about it; what % of people calling the call desk are really comfortable with the IT stuff you work with and know.

So you have to fall back to the lowest possible starting point wich probably is "Have you switched it on?" or something similar.

But if I can figure out a way to get a second-line number that won't get abused, I'd be the first to implement it. Question is how do you 'qualify' end-users to get access to this number?

Maybe I must write a test and if you pass you get the number? :)

Its definitely understandable, as frustrating as it can be they can't make any assumptions I suppose. I've experienced first hand how surprisingly uninformed people can be! And uninformed is very euphemistic. :D

Test sounds like a good idea lol. ;) Only problem is then people will start giving the number out so maybe you have to somehow authenticate access by caller ID? Not sure if that's even possible.

Vodacom3g,

I faxed the paper work yesterday, and I called 155 today. They tell me that my sim card was activated for internetvpn yesterday. I tried streaming again today but I am still having the same problem that I mentioned yesterday. Is there more settings that I need to playaround?. What settings do you have for your Access point that used by RealPlayer?.
