Vodacom`s new branding

Who cares if CellC have a clown comedian as their CEO, Vodacom brought a very good deal to the table, which makes CellC's "awesome CEO" look like an idiot
...it's all gimmicks in the end anyway - stop being a consumer zombie and don't let ANY ads convince you of anything, look at the hard data/facts.

Cell C is just faster than vodacom.... I've gotten a 25ms ping to mybroadband before... played online FPS games for months without any lag, and comparable ping with the ADSL gamers.
I've got 11Mbps downloading max, and for actual real download speed, I have downloaded 550MB in 10min. Now I would like to see you get that on vodacom.

Unfortunately though I'm not in the city anymore, so I cannot enjoy Cell C's fast speeds, and I have to put up with this:
http://speedtest.net/result/1239570902.png 0.04Mbps down, 0.03Mbps up, 823ms ping, and I am connected with good HSDPA 3.6Mbps signal.
Obviously there is a problem with the tower. It used to be more like 1Mbit. But again, I would like to see somebody get the above data (that I, an average Cell C user in the city got) with vodacom.

Please don't tell me I'm a zombie, there are the facts, and it just goes to show that your statement is so retarded and so far from true.

Vodacom is Red
Red is Mofaya...

Ayoba, Mofaya, WTF...

So, Vodafone SA had to copy MTN. When will you be original?

Mofaya ? WTF ?

What is a Mofaya ?

I know what a Mofo is, but not a Mofaya....

Any particular reason why the posts/threads relating to MyBBs advertising relationship with Vodacom have disappeared?? Not to go all google/china conspiracy theory on you guys but being censored ain't particurlarly a promising sign :(

If it was still Vodacom they would have known how to spell the mof-word. Guess the Vodafone people are still struggling with uniquely South-African words.

Vodacom and the Vodafone takeover

I was sitting having a conversation today with someone who seems to know a little "too much" (;))on whats going on in Vodascum.

So we got talking about dropped calls, pathetic coverage etc etc.

He goes on to tell me that Vodacom had to push up the revenue stream over the last period of time in order for the takeover to happen.
He says Vodascum intentionally stopped upgrading the infrastructure and made sure that more calls were dropped in order to increase the revenue. More calls dropped = more calls made. (How this was done I don't know)
They had to hold back on any spending and increase revenue. Seems very plausible.

Now obviously this is not fact otherwise it would be in CA section.

Just wanted to put this out there and here what you all think.
Vodascum have become a Telkom.

If Vodacom 'stopped upgrading the infrastructure' how do you explain Vodacom's network growing faster than anyone else?

Today there are over 12000 2G and 3G towers active with population coverage of 99.5% on 2G and 74% on 3G (87 to 90% if you use Cell C's "relaxed" measurement level). Show me another network in South Africa with better coverage.

To put it in perspective, another network that claims they have the "biggest coverage" 3G network stated last week they have 1550 3G towers. Vodacom is already over 4300 of which more than 1100 is on 43.2Mb/s.

In the next year alone, Vodacom will spend more on extending it's network than the above mentioned network spent on its entire 3G network to date.

Look at the average speeds on speedtest.net. See how Vodacom's performance increased over the last year? Average speeds nearly doubled. How can average speeds increase if the number of subscribers increased at the same time? Only with substantial upgrades.

Vodacom is in the final phases of refreshing the entire network. Whenever such a refresh happens network quality will be impacted as the swap-over happens. Once the swap-over is finished the network is optimised to give best quality. The swap-out was in full swing in Gauteng the last few months and is coming to an end now, so the optimisation process will now start and you will see a marked decrease in dropped calls.

BTW, one of the 'side-effects' of this swap-out was to enable the 3G network for 86.4Mb/s.

I know you love a good conspiracy theory but if you just stop to think about it, poorer quality does not translate to more revenue.

PM me your mobile number and I'll ask the guys to do an investigation when, where and why you're dropping calls.

I think his point was that by dropping calls, subscribers have to spend more money. I can see the logic.

I can also see that there is an obsession with improving the network, but not the basic call quality. I recall quite clearly that 2g was also quite pathetically slow on Vodacom. Is that still the case?

Voicemail is also quite heavily compressed, which is definitely an example of poorer quality and more revenue. In fact if you don't use voicemail for a short period, Vodacom removes the option and your recorded message - again revenue.

I'm not a Vodacom/Vodafone fan but this conspiracy theory is a bit far fetched. Vodafone's taken over a large stake in Vodacom ages ago. So you're right, the person you spoke to does "know a little too much" about something he doesnt know much about really. :)

I haven't had dropped calls to be honest but then again I do not live in a densely populated area like the most people that are complaining. I think it's a little more to do with the amount of people per tower than actually "timing the call and dropping it" on-purposely.

If Vodacom 'stopped upgrading the infrastructure' how do you explain Vodacom's network growing faster than anyone else?
Is that some kind of a joke? Your network is a disgrace and in the most built up areas. If anything the network is going backwards.
Today there are over 12000 2G and 3G towers active with population coverage of 99.5% on 2G and 74% on 3G (87 to 90% if you use Cell C's "relaxed" measurement level). Show me another network in South Africa with better coverage.
Doesn't mean squat to me if the network is down so often and believe me, on Blackberry, the speeds are worse than dial up. Another thing, who the hell cares about 3G when you cannot even complete a damn call on 2 G?
In the next year alone, Vodacom will spend more on extending it's network than the above mentioned network spent on its entire 3G network to date.
Again it doesn't mean anything to us in the real world that cannot complete a large percentage of calls. I don't know what planet Vodacom management live on. MTN was far better but their billing is a nightmare.
Look at the average speeds on speedtest.net. See how Vodacom's performance increased over the last year? Average speeds nearly doubled. How can average speeds increase if the number of subscribers increased at the same time? Only with substantial upgrades.
What about VOICE???

Seeing is believing, I am so sick of empty promises from companies.

You are missing the point, voice is a problem or is it true that you guys are focussing on data now?
I know you love a good conspiracy theory but if you just stop to think about it, poorer quality does not translate to more revenue.
no but it translates to less money spent and more people having to make more calls due to dropped calls.
PM me your mobile number and I'll ask the guys to do an investigation when, where and why you're dropping calls.
Thanks but it is not just me, Sandton is a complete joke. Many dead spots and many dropped calls and Vodacom know this. Why has it not been resolved?

Sorry man not attacking you but I am just so sick and tired of the same PR crap.
Granted this may not be true what I was told but really, the network is shocking.
Speeds on BB are worse than dial up and also BBM's are sometimes delayed for hours.
Why did this never happen on MTN?

New branding or not... in the past four years I've been on all of the networks, and Vodacoms has been the most reliable, and their support has been FAR better than that received from CellC and MTN.

Actually you are attacking me.

You made a statement Vodacom is intentionally not investing, I give you the facts and you call what I told you PR crap. If I told you you whatever you said is crap, would you not deem it a personal attack?

I also explained to you what the issues in Sandton are and what Vodacom is doing to address it. Guess that's PR crap as well?

You basically troll every thread posting how bad Vodacom's network is. To the point where one has to wonder why you subject yourself to so much pain. Especially as you keep on posting how wonderful the other networks are.

Why?

And, if you think about it, the network will make much more money if you carry a conversation than constantly dropping a call. You do know you can re-connect free of charge if you dropped a call?
