So today I get another one of those irritating Vodacom Spam SMS's and at the bottom of the SMS it says I can opt out but normal SMS rates apply? What? How does that work?

It should be free shouldn't it? Does anyone know what the law etc on this is. They can't be allowed to spam us and then we get charged to get them to stop us.

Can't wait when my contract ends next month and I'm moving over to MTN.

That's odd. They never say anything about cost when I get them.
You can also ring 111 then 0 for operator and ask them to opt you out.

Thanks. I'm surprised I still get them though. I ported to Virgin from Vodacom ages ago...

The problem with Vodacom/MTN spam is you can't really and truly opt-out. You only opt-out for that specific chain of spam, whenever they launch another competition/product they'll spam you all over again..from a different number..and then you need to opt-out again!

Sounds like a money-making scenario, because now you keep on opting-out and paying but you're never actually opting out "For Everything" !

I already started getting this Vodacom Thumbwars "spam" , again i can opt-out, even though the last event of theirs i DID opt-out of that...so i don't see the point anymore.

I am waiting for the tick-box saying "NEVER EVER SEND ME ANY PROMOTONAL/ADVERTISEMENT INFORMATION ..EVER " .

Also received a vodacom thumb wars spam sms today during an exam. Was fantastic. And if they want to charge me to opt out well you know what i'd say to that.

If Vodacom ever starts to use another number and different opt out list they will never hear the end of it. It will make a mockery of the whole system. Let us know if you get any.

I get this every now and then, and I quote:
Vodacom complies with the Electronic Communications & Transactions Act of 2002, Section45(1) - any person who sends unsolicited commercial communications to consumers, must provide the consumers with the option to cancel his or her subscription the that mailing list. To opt out of Gift box promotional reminders, SMS STOP to 31118. Opt-out SMS are free.

Every sms thing Ive gotten over the past few months has said the opt-out sms is free.

Grrr... I also received it...

Remember to watch Vodacom ThumbWars in association with Samsung Mobile 19:30 every Thursday from 4 June on SABC 2. To opt out sms back TW (standard rates apply)

I did indeed opt out, but now I see the Std rates apply bullsh1t! Way to go VodaSpam!

I wonder if someone could ever spam and then charge something like R100 for the opt out sms?

The cure for this.........

Hi,
I know how to fix this and other such spam..........we need someone to call Vodacom, tell them you are a Big company, likely to open several accounts for all staff members, branches etc, need email addresses of management at vodacom - publish here - then get all 294 000 members of MYBB to whack them with mails (250kb) size, all at once (just 10 emails each).

But we must put into the email at the end why we are spamming them. Getting em back. Good idea though.

Me 2. Make sure we have a large amount of people. No point posting the e-mails and its only about 5 of us spamming.

a new meaning of thumb wars

Has anyone had success to the Vodaspam, I am getting spammed with their rubbish, the only way around this is to spam the management and ceo, there is no other way....
