I was just wondering if there is a Vodacom Speedtest Website for Mobile Phones yet? I have tried the Http://Speed.vodacom.co.za/Speedtest on my WM device which results in opening a blank site without graphics.

It might be a good idea to have a mobile website to test our Down/Up Load speeds on the devices.

Thanks in advance.

Indeed, been on my To-Do list for a while.

There are already a least 3 different ones to choose from in the appstore, so by all means go flash if you like ;)

True, but I'd actually like a single system where all the results are logged on our side like with speed.vodacom.co.za.

Not only can you do a speed test for yourself, but we can then analyse the results and pick up patterns and trends.

Good idea. I think you should then extend it even further and add the location based services to it as well so you can see exactly from where the test has been run. Would also be nice to have this added to the zero rated services like the VMC downloads which would encourage people to make use of the service.

I should put you on the project team we created for this! :)

We already have most of the info in speed.vodacom.co.za.

We know your IP and time of the test, so through some processing we can look up your tower, profile and device used.

The client also picks up some info from your browser, but this is not guaranteed.

I'm also keen to zero-rate it but it would mean putting it behind a login to control abuse. Always someone out there being an idiot.

I've been wondering if such a service would be possible. Would be nice :) Way too much effort to connect my cellphone to the pc to do a speed test :p

My Rates are reasonable ;)

This is interesting news. I would like to see average speed obtained broken down by region or is that all top secret?

Does Vodacoms network monitoring system also run speed and latency tests, or do you just wait for someone to report a problem in a specific area? It would actually be interesting to see the setup you guys have :)

The username/password thing is such a schlep. How about one of those "you have already run this test 5 times, please wait 2min and try again" options?

I have the vodacom speedtest running on my HTC Diamond (WM6.1) under opera and FlashLite 3.1

Note to OP : when I open the site without FlashLite 3.1 I get a message stating that I need to have minimum flash 7 support

Hi Vg3

Hopefully Vodacom can develope one that does not need one or other fancy flash version to work on WM IE Explorer, as my humble experciences with 3rd party applications mostly have been a mix of 50% good and 50% bad. Logic says if your OS has a similar application on board that achieves the same results etc. do not load the 3rd party application (Might void device Warranty if installed).

Flash Lite (Adobe) 2.1 or 3.1 is not normally loaded on WM device as standard application.

Thanks

There are a huge array of testing systems in place. Will take you on a tour at some point.

I see the Speedtest now displays on my Mobile IE but requires Flash Player 7 to run. The problem is that the Flash Player on Adobe Website does not work on WM6.1 (Samsung i780 with latest ROM) and it appears that there are no plans to develope a version that will work.

I wonder if anyone knows more about Flash Player that will work on WM6.1. Thanks in advance all replies are appreaciated.

Thank you Vg3 for making this one work on Mobile IE.
